I wouldn’t want anyone planning on going to this one to miss it over any confusion. The “ground” is now called Boundary Outlet. Hope this helps.
I’m obviously happy that we won yesterday and I know I’ll get slated for this, but that’s still 1 win in 7. There seems to be a lot of ‘I told you so’ posts, but whether Sadler deserves another summer will be decided by consistency, not pulling a win or good run out of the bag every so often.
I hope he does it and takes us on, but I’m not 100% convinced at the moment. Hopefully he makes me look at fool and I can take absolute pelters for years to come.
Smith made a couple of brilliant saves and won us the points with that save near the end he is however the luckiest goalie i have ever seen and long may that luck continue. He made huge blunders v Crewe and Wrexham and got away with them and yesterday he flapped at one and spilled another which were not punished. The makeshift back 3 were brilliant yesterday 2nd half it was great to see the whole team so happy at the end. Dont let anyone tell you these players dont try and dont care about playing for Walsall.
No ‘told you so’ posts at all. I just think regardless of league position, we’re 6 points off the play offs. The league is so tight. If we were 9th and 6 points off the play offs he’d be getting a lot more praise than being 16th and 6 points off the play offs.
I agree. My beef is that since his injury we’ve had two windows and I’m not sure an Earingesque midfielder has been on the shopping list because instinctively, Sadler likes two CDMs, even if one of those is a born and bred centre back.
As I already said, I mis typed and corrected it to read Newport instead of Grimsby.
In respect of Crawley yes he won the penalty but calls for Sadler to change it before they scored were in part due to him being completely overrun and generally not involved.
I haven’t said he hasn’t done well, my argument to to counter suggestions he’s been responsible our better performances when it’s clear we’ve been as good or bad or as inconsistent with him in the side or out of it.
Really entertaining game and a classic Walsall result. We probably should have been a couple down at half time and were fortunate to win on the balance of chances created but I’ll take it.
Smith is a funny one. Makes some great saves but has dropped numerous clangers that somehow didn’t end up in goals. Have to fear it will catch up to him at some point, but maybe he’ll iron that out with experience.
Very pleased for Adegboyega to get that goal. Was thrown in at the deep end and could have sunk after his error let them score.
Quinn was good for them. Why is it that when we sign higher level veterans they are always terrible. When did we last have a good one? Jon Macken?
Earring started ok yesterday but as the game wore on I thought he improved tremendously.
I’m happy for Taylor Allen who considering he’s not played much put in a shift and more than held his own.
It’s only one win that we can hopefully build on and even though we rode our luck we won beating a top league two side.
I’ve just taken a look at the bbc site and stags fans think we’re better than our league position suggests. Ok they don’t watch us week in week out but I find it interesting how some of our fans see us as opposed to supporters of other teams.
Agreed and there were a lot of people who were angry that he had been retained. It shows how you need a squad, not just a first team…
Absolutely this.
The criticism of Sadler for keeping him was ludicrous.
He has proven several times already this season that he is more than capable of playing at this level and has a priceless ability to do that in several positions and roles often at short notice.
Looks to be a real popular lad in the group also.
That’s a fair point.
For me, I would be convinced if we could just iron out a bit of the inconsistency. I don’t expect total consistency, but we do need to improve in that area.
If we do that for the rest of the season, then next year suddenly looks interesting.
Has there been any news on Farquarson’s injury, or anything about Daniels?
I think we all might be agreeing.
When Jack plays and plays well, we are elevated to a level quite beyond our current status. Him and that role make it happen.
If he’s off it, and he will be from time to time, given his injury or he doesn’t play then we return to lower mid table fourth division dirge. Most of the time. In the twenty odd experiments with Mcentee I can think of three where Mcentee was able to to the job that comes naturally to Earing. There’s nobody else in the squad can come close.
When Earing and Hutch are both on it, the midfield machine has a certain purr that has been missing for a long time. It’s just that consistency thing for them both.
Whoever is in charge of the club on a day-to-day basis should insist that Sadler and our Media Team, sit down and watch that interview. At present, all the club interviews are embarrassing and almost unwatchable.
I honestly couldn’t give a flying fart about media interviews.
They are far from the most important part of Sadler’s job.
They have no influence on our performance on the pitch.
What he can say is necessarily limited.
Agreed
As Napoleon Bonaparte said in another context (substitute “goalie” for "general):
I would rather have a general who was lucky than one who was good.
Agreed not most imortant part of hs job, far from it. But he is making a rod for his own back with his continuous claims of how brilliant we are and how its not like us to start slowly after we’ve conceded for the 12th (i think) time inside 1st 15 minutes. It just makes him look ridiculous and winds fans up that can see the blindingly obvious with their own eyes and know that starting slowly is exactly like us and its soething that so far he has failed miserably to put right
True, but you need to tell Sadler. He takes them very seriously himself. The slightest hint of challenge and he gets edgy.
Hes been good when called upon this season, i dont think hes let us down once. Hes certainly re invented himself well as a 3rd centre back and his left foot is under rated.
He was terrible at left wing back last season though, so it wasn’t ludicrous criticism at the time. Sadler has done good work with him.
