I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Wrongly as it turned out.
Thatâs different from what was going on after some of the defeats/poor performances though. When Sadler comes out with some of superlatives he has been doing, itâs not only frustrating because of the delusion, you begin to question whether those poor standards are being accepted by those at the very top.
Like you say, there is certainly a merit in this approach. Dean Smith used to deflect from poor performances, usually towards the referee, but he still wasnât afraid of calling out poor performances or individual pieces of play.
As @Shrewsbury-Saddler has mentioned. Itâs not a binary thing, and hopefully Sadler is learning that he needs to not only cater for the dressing room in his interviews, but itâs also an important way to keep the supporters on-side.
Thought someone as smart as you wouldâve spotted it
I can recall smithâs post match interviews often being criticized on here.
I think Sadler should pay more attention to fans views. Heâd learn a lot quicker than he is.
Incomparable.
I have criticised Sadlers interviews but its also easy to forget lots were moaning at Flynn/Clarke etc beating the team up after every game.
There is a fine line really. Something that only comes with experience i guess. Some managers try to get reaction some will âtrust the processâ. somewhere in the middle is where the best managers are i think.
Ah, youâve resorted to replying like a child. Well done.
Not at all. I was taking the p!ss but some genuinely believe he could.
I have been critical of Matt in the past, but I do wonder how many goals he could/would have scored for us if there was a better supply of crosses for him. Looking at Faalâs goals for Doncaster, I expect the same would apply.
The ball for the first goal from Hutch was perfect yesterday. Okay it was an inswinging cross and usually the wide players would be swinging away from goal, but itâs all about the pace, trajectory and the area it is put into. Our wide players seem to struggle to get the ball above knee height.
I understand they are 4th division players and arenât going to get perfect crosses in all of the time, but we really are so poor at it in general.
I understand there 4th division players but unfortunately knowles and Gordon never get it right any of the time , for there position there assists return is embarrassingly bad
Tbf as you say our strikers donât really have much of a chance
Balls in where markedly improved yesterday. I want to see more of that. So many good balls in.
Matt is never gonna be quick enough to be busting his gut to get in the box, like we have been playing recently. He will score goals if we can put the ball in when hes ruffling some feathers.
Taylor Allen has a very good left foot, perhaps if he has to play more we will continue to be a threat from crosses.
Anyone else think smith is going to be a fan favourite ?
Seems to get on really well with the fans and have an excitable passionate attitude
Got an air of Walker thrown in with the enduring smile of ince
I really like smith and feel fans especially the younger ones could get attached to him , something that doesnât happen to many players nowadays
I agree.
We have seen enough of Gordon and Knowles to know that they are both absolutely useless at crossing or passing the ball into the area. They are a big part of our failure this season.
Neither of them is good enough as a full back to be in the side as a specialist full back, and neither is good enough as a winger to be in the side as a winger. Both of them often have good runs gaining territory along the wing in the middle third of the pitch - which seems to satisfy Sadler - but those runs are seldom if ever followed by a chance for our forwards to score.
I just recall he got criticized on here a lot. I canât remember what the criticism was centered around.
Smith used to criticise the officials a lot from memory just another way of protecting players. also recall him blaming a white strip from the opposition when we lost in the snow as it was hard to see them
Wasnt that Whitney? Not sure but i remember the game, it was terrible to be fair
I think Taylor Allen has put in more dangerous crosses in his limited appearances than Gordon and Knowles combined. I donât the latter two are bad players, but we do need more from them in terms of creating chances.
For all the talk of front-foot football, we are fairly low down the table when it comes to goals scored.
A bizarre way to look at life in my humble opinion.
So, in your world, who are the winners and who are the losers?
We were winners yesterday
I was thinking exactly the same this morning. Hopefully he will stay, develop and become a backbone in the spine of our team like Walker.
It would be great if we could build such a team again where fans adored those wearing the shirt
