W 2-1 vs Notts County (A) - League Two - Sat 9th Dec, 3pm

I thought Walsall played very well and deserved the points.
The last few games have been bloody awful to watch and hopefully it’s a corner turned (fingers crossed)
The whole team got stuck in and as the game wore on Notts County lost confidence throughout their team.
I honestly thought oh here we go when they scored but fair play to the saddlers who dug in and found a way back.
On the subject of their goal what was the county player thinking by coming over to us and giving it large, pity he didn’t get booked for his stupidity.
Anyway we won so my message to him is “up yours”.

Could you make out what he said??

Probably the most Walsall result ever that. :joy:

Fair play to everyone for that second half.

Now back it up in the cup and v Tranmere and I’ll stop talking about replacing Sadler. :ok_hand:

Seriously? The amount of effort and running the Walsall players put in today (bearing in mind they played a very physical game midweek) and you put the win down to Notts County not turning up?

I do hope the players don’t read these threads.

Not sure if this has been posted already sorry if it has. “I never lost doubt that we’d come out of this challenging period with victories, and we have to back it up

I don’t get where this notion.of us being rubbish in the first half has come from. OK, County scored (and some fans took that as the cue to turn on Sadler like he’d let it in himself), but to me we pretty much kept them at arm’s length for most of the game until then and were fairly comfortable. You have to earn the right to play and we paid our dues with the hard work put in stopping County from getting going. We had the odd flurry going forward ourselves, and Knowles showed a bit of quick thinking with that quickly taken free kick from within our own half.

The upturn in County’s fortunes in the last 15 before HT actually coincided with storm Elin cranking it up a notch and so we were playing the last segment of the half into the teeth of a gale (the corner flags were being blown almost horizontal) and that was driving heavy rain into our players’ faces. I was thinking we’d get the benefit of it second half but it all died down considerably during the break (shades of that game at Yeovil a few years back). Apart from that they didn’t really hurt us.

I take the point that at times it was more utilitarian than mid-70s Dutch total football, but it was more entertaining than Tuesday night (where the conditions were even less conducive to a pretty passing game and we resorted, arguably correctly, to an ugly safety first approach). I expect Alfreton to continue their aggressive press approach in the replay, but with a better (and bigger) playing surface I think we will see them off much more comfortably.

He was bollocking the guy for “not doing his effing job” and “if you did your job, I wouldn’t have to (bollock you)!”, all the time wagging his figure aggressively at the player.

Sounds like my old boss. Everyone wanted to knock him out as well.

To pick out Mcentee with a perfectly weighted pass in this position, I don’t know if or how he meant it but a wonderful finish to top it off. A truly great Walsall goal from the winning of the ball to the finish

The County manager praised the hard work put in by the Saddlers in the first half.

There you go - he saw it, and I believe it was also mentioned on the iFollow commentary, but it would seem many on here didn’t.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone accusing the players of not trying hard enough, you didn’t see it because no one thinks it.

If that was Knowles

I would like this but I’ve ran out of likes :joy: to be fair to Knowles from what I heard he did very well in his tracking back and general play today

I really liked Flynn and thought he did a great job at stablising this club and was very sad to see him go. However, I witnessed scenes like this sat behind the dugout, both him and Hatswell and I could see confidence drain out the players when it happened. Sadler’s desire to praise the players no matter what is to be admired even if it does border into delusion at times.

Or he might have got lucky

I agree. apart from the goal we defended well in the first half, and could have been level if Knowles outrageous improvised free kick from 60 yards had been about a foot to the right. Indeed my Notts supporting mate, who I had a pre-match pint before the game texted me at half-time to say how well we had contained them. A bit patronising to be fair because I think he expected them to kick on in the second half, whereas we were the team to dictate the game after the break. He was forced to acknowledge that we we deserved to win.

It would have landed in someone’s back garden.

.

I take it you did not watch the first half. Those of us did made up our own minds based on what we saw.

If you did not watch the first half you can look at the statistics, which were 31% possession, 1 shot which was off target, no blocked shots, no corners.

You could also look at the posts up to around number 300 on this thread.

The SofaScore Attack Momentum picture tells the story.
