One of my mates was due to get the train to Wolvo straight after the game as he was going to a gig. I bumped into him in the Locker as apparently it had kicked off at the station and the police closed it. So he was grabbing a quick drink before getting an Uber instead.
Swindon fans online seem to think the seat was being thrown at their ex-player Flint and it hit Robert’s instead.
After everything that happened yesterday it was great to get the win. Thought the ref had seriously robbed us with that penalty decision.
The team performance was strong and showed courage.
Think rovers looks a decent keeper controls the box well.
Clarke looks a talent.
I said when Allen was first rumoured I wasn’t to fussed if we got a decent fee as weir can step up and I think he will do well this season.
Flint was a proper leader and organiser at the back. Although I just hope that carries on. I remember us saying the same about Peter Clarke. Although I do think flint will fair better than him for a full season.
I guess being a Walsall fan sometimes makes you expect it to go wrong
Was he an ex player? I understand from my mate Andy, a City fan, Swindle tried to buy him. Fee was agreed, but he didn’t want to go there, hence their dislike of him, as well as him playing for a Bristol club.
8 debuts yesterday - 9 if you count Rico (as far as league games are concerned) - and at least 3 others yet to be seen. Plus the long awaited return of the Priest of course.
On first impressions, are they upgrades on the players they’ve replaced from last season?
Not sure lightning will strike twice and Stuttle or Pressley turn into the new Lowe, but I think as a front 2 their partnership might bear up against Lowe/Jamma.
Roberts looks at least as good as Simkin.
Flint is better than Okagbue/McEntee/DD as the central CB (which one is he directly replacing?)
Hancock impressed in the pre-seasons. Yesterday he didn’t have much chance to get forward, or many targets to aim at when he did, but the majority of his crosses looked more dangerous than Liam Gordon managed - not so sure about the defensive side though.
Both Warrington and Hollmann (apart from his head injury) I can’t say I noticed that much. Anonymous or just quietly getting on with the less glamorous parts of the game with minimum fuss?
Clarke though was a standout. He was another who impressed me in pre-season, but I thought he surpassed that level yesterday - even the Swindon fans have singled him out as the game changer on their forums. Factor in that he is supposedly back-up to Barrett rather than an out-and-out midfielder and we could have a real gem there.
“Defining successful outcomes” …. Seriously??
Since the inception of four tier football the only successful outcome in respect of Walsall FC when in the fourth tier has been to get out of the fucker ASAP. I get that you, Belphie and others bring your other worldliness to the table largely based on your worthy life experience. But that actually belongs in off topic, it’s got nothing to do with football in my opinion. I don’t go to football to spend money, time, and in my case loss of earnings so I can jump about because Mat Sadler has green ticked his latest Trivela homework assignment based on some Iines in the sand that belong in a David Brent come Mike Bassett presentation reality. Walsall FC were pretty good yesterday, the fans were off the scale superb. It’s about time the folks running the show moved their expectation dial to align with the support they enjoy, and to deliver the initial modecom of success that the fan base deserves. That time is 25/26, yesterday was a good start, it was an amazing start from the fans given what happened just two months ago.
I wouldn’t be so sure. Early to say obviously and Stuttle’s day was cut short. I really have liked the look of him the bit I have seen though. He looks a right nuisance, his work rate is off the scale but he also has clever movement. I think he will do very well. Pressley… he was pretty much what I expected, I think he will do well also and as you said, the partnership could be really good.
I thought Hancock did okay defensively, he wasn’t allowed to get forward much though.
Not saying he was useless defensively, just that I’m not sure whether he is an upgrade on LG in that department (in terms of attacking threat it’s no contest).
I know some don’t agree and really rated L.Gordon defensively. I thought he was poor at stopping crosses coming in, personally. His main strength was running the ball forward.
Early days, of course, I thought Weir and Hanckock stuck to their tasks quite well down that side.
There was a ridiculous attempt at a scrap, it was embarrassing on both sides as just about everyone with a brain cell that was there agreed. I stopped some gobby chav pulling a bottle out of the bin to lob at Swindon as they got on their train, he then apologised about 27 times in 4 minutes conversant with the marching powdered wastrel loons in paranoia mode I have to deal with every other week on the Newcastle bus. It’s just sad and pathetic.
I saw you yesterday (with a pint!) Was going to say hello, but the kids were pestering me to get to their seat. Not sure what it is they think they are going to miss at 2.40 pm.
He was indeed. Swindon struggled to contain him, but in addition to the newcomers, I think that Jellis responded to the love from the terraces in a big way. I thought Lakin had a great game too.
Not just in terms of the new faces, this had a feel of a different Walsall, one with some real steel about them, something that I haven’t seen for a long time.
