Not right thread But well worth a watch .there’s a ball boy under there somewhere hope he’s ok
Surely they’re be some comeuppance on that celebration with fans(??) on the pitch?
Would think so yes not good that young lad under that lot
Walsall clearly had a game plan that neutralised our main tactic of the last few weeks. We’ve been drawing centre forwards into a press on our centre backs when we have the ball at the back. That’s left space for Craig to receive the ball in a deep lying midfield position and launch attacks.
They neutralised that by simply not being pulled in, and thereby gave Craig zero space. So we had to move the ball out to full backs, at which point their midfielders tigerishly pressed us.
It was really quite impressive to watch how disciplined they were. We didn’t have a clue how to deal with it for the first 30 minutes.
This is from the Donny forum fair play no sour grapes.
Please someone correct me, this can’t be right:
It’s the first time since 2013 we’ve scored 2 or more in 5 consecutive games (Just league)
Thought Earing was MOTM yesterday, really carries an attacking threat from midfield, works incredibly hard, and gets into good positions, Hutch gets all the praise usually, but I think Earing is equally as pivotal, and sometimes more effective.
In amongst the “comments” on the BBC website reporting this game … “Sweet spot from Walsall. Look forward to playing you next season in League One. From a bluenose”
Birmingham City , indeed, are now level with 3 other teams straddling the relegation zone. Rotherham look certain to drop, Sheffield Wendy are next up, then there’s that clutch of 4 including Blues and Sjoke.
It’s a funny thing, expectation. Most of the Blues fans phoning WM in the week were confident relegation would be avoided without needing much of a scrap. It’s no great surprise that they lost to Southampton , but the way they lost ,very late goal after leading, changes minds more than say, a comfortable defeat, which would have been dismissed as just beaten by a better team.
I actually think we will finish about 8th and just miss out on the play offs. I’d still think that’s a decent season though although we will be a bit disappointed to miss out.
However it all looks good for next season. We just need the fans to be together when we inevitably lose a few games and remember Sadler can change it round quickly.
The work Earing and Hutchinson do defensively in this press is really impressive. The ground they cover to get from central positions out to press full backs in incredible.
This type of organised press takes alot of work and a lot of time to get right and is a measure of just how well this side is being coached and also just how much they’ve bought into the plan.
Yep can now see the traps we set too.
Press goes wrong occasionally as it did with their goal but it’s a great way to watch football. Rather than sitting deep all game
Most weeks statistically there isn’t much between them. Yesterday in particular the stats were almost identical in their contributions attacking and defensively.
Ultimately they will normally be judged by viewers by their output in terms of goals and assists which is why Hutchinson will often get the bulk of the praise……
Yesterday Earing received the bulk of it due to the goal he scored whilst Hutchinson missed two great chances which would’ve altered perception a little, of two very similar performances, had either or both gone in.
It is notable that the return of Earing has been a key factor in our improved form. His return , fitter and stronger than before , is I think the story of the season.
Yes, a lesson to be learned about keeping faith in an injured player. Mind you, it is rare to return from such a serious injury and be so good so quickly.
I remember a certain poster saying we shouldn’t have offered Earing a short term deal as there was no room for sentiment and doing ‘favours’
I tried to post the 2 Donny quotes from their forum but it wouldn’t let me. It made very interesting reading. Shows how well we are doing
That was football at its finest! A last minute winner from a reborn side against the team that robbed them of their name and status. Never again should the FA allow the complete theft of a football club.
