I am going today as I have a season ticket unlucky for me but like you say think we will lose early goal no doubt And god knows what team he will put out
Well I am looking forward to going. I always do…I meet friends old and new and have some banter before and during the game. It will be a tough game but I think we can win it. Up the saddlers.
Gordon will be a big loss, he has been one of our better players this season. I’m pro Sadler but I’ll be disappointed if he plays McEntee in midfield. I don’t expect him to start Johnson and think he will go with Draper on his own up front, I’ll be in the minority but I’m not against that.
Early goal in the early kick-off … Notts County 1 Mansfield Town 0 (3 min)
EDIT, now 1-1 (24 min)
After last weekend it’ll be draper on his own. It’ll be 3 centre backs again and it’ll be mcentee In midfield, how exciting. 0-0 draw at best but 0-2 defeat I’m expecting
Is it that bad a record? I remember that amazing 3-2 win over them in 15/16, were 2 down in that one and Smith left a month later.
Also a 3-0 win down at Priestfield in the relegation season, Andy Cook hat trick.
Walsall and Gillingham to me are similar clubs, both massively overachieved in the late 90s/2000s before decline or natural order restored. Then had some good battles in league one for a decade or so. Now both under American ownership and judging by them sacking Harris when they were actually top 3 their one isn’t taking the “incremental” route to success.
As for today I’ll go for entertaining 2-2. With Thanny in that results largely aren’t enough to get Sadler close to the sack (bar last week) nor are they saying this team is doing anything but finishing mid table.
Probably more looking forward to the FA cup draw tomorrow than today’s game!
We’re impossible to predict.
We’re the same as we have been the last four or five years which means that we’ll probably be poor but we might be OK.
The team no better or worse than Clarke’s, Taylor’s or Flynn’s. Sadler no better or worse than those three either. There seems to be less patience afforded to Sadler than those three for some reason. But then there’s a sizeable chunk of Walsall fans that have always been been seduced by a “name”. Sadler being the least glamorous/famous of the four seems to equal less patience.
I hope nobody’s going today with any expectation that it will be anything other than what we’ve become. We are what we are, the people in the dug out make very little difference at the moment. We rotate average players out and replace them with average players. Upgrades in parts, downgrades in others equals same, same same.
If we win today - be happy, enjoy your tea and your pint but don’t start “ooh if we string a run together……” because if we’re good today, we’re as likely to be rubbish as we are going into today next week - a 50/50 bet with the positive 50% being split between being average, pretty good an a one in ten chance of being really good.
Yes had a good chat with Connor Wilkinson in our local supermarket ( he’s not playing due to international break ) .
Reminisced about that volley against Newport on NYE , and was happy to give my lad some tips about playing up front …
Spoke fondly about the Saddlers , likeable fella .
So am seeing that as good luck , have upgraded my prediction to 5-0
We need to see some reaction after last week. Even if we lose, we need to go down battling. No reaction in my book would look terribly on Sadler, an indication the players no longer have faith in him. It’s a big afternoon for him and hope he pulls a result out the bag.
Watching Mansfield and County we are miles off
Watching Brackley town v Dagenham in fa cup , we’re miles off ffs,
Notts County signed David McGoldrick.
To add to the 40 goal striker they kept from the national league.
Mansfield are just the same as usual aren’t they, drawing endless matches so yet another season of Nigel Clough squandering a very good budget for this level.
Looks like tickets have sold extremely well for this game so we should be on for a bumper audience.
Makes a difference from a car crash on the pitch …
Draper back starting.
Hutch and Knowles in support.
McEntee back in midfield…I think.
Notts County 1 Mansfield Town 2 (70 min)
EDIT … now 1-3 (74 min)
Just like I said … 3 at the back , 1 up top, a system when we have no right wing back.
Just clueless management once again. Going for a draw at home.
Hard to say what the formation is from that selection. Is Riley at RB in a 4, RWB, or in midfield alongside Stirk?
Knowles at RWB, up alongside Draper, or in a 3 behind him with Tierney and Hutch?
Is Allen at LB, LWB or LCB?
If we are all struggling to work out who’s playing where and in what formation in October we are in trouble.
