W 4-2 vs Tranmere Rovers (H) – Sat 20th Sept, 3.00pm (League Two)

That’s what it sounded like from near the halfway line

Yes that’s right , TBF it was only a couple of “fans" , and everyone is entitled to a opinion, I suppose

No mate , as I said it was nothing major, just annoying.

The referee was decent yesterday but not giving a red card for the blatant elbow was a cope out.

Early on Smallwood has his foot raised up by Lakins head which was worse than either of Lakins bookings from the last home game and he didn’t even speak to him.

I suppose he was at least consistent in being lenient

Not sure how you can give a yellow for it?

that would indicate that he spotted the elbow, bottle job.

Luton scout at the game, wonder who they were watching.

Preparation for next season, starting early :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I saw his car too - I think one of Tranmeres subs is a Luton loanee- prob there to watch him.

Taylan Harris- replaced Davison on 70 mins.

Cant be as he got a yellow i think.

To be fair the ref just let every challenge go really, its much more fun to watch like that as long as they are consistent. Wasn’t a dirty game (other than perhaps that moment, although im still not sure that’s a deliberate elbow, our player certainly did his best rolling effort anyway) just two teams battling away.

I would like it if a bit more aggression was allowed, not going back to the old days style, just a little bit more let go if it is genuine challenges for the ball. And stop yellow cards for almost every tackle.

There is no place for sly elbows like that though, he knew what he was doing. The fact the ref gave a yellow says he saw it and should have been a red. Didn’t matter in the end, it actually could have harmed us if you think about how we play and how Tranmere would have gone if down to ten men.

Yeah i can see he had a look but he will just argue he was looking where the player was. We will never know. Id give him the benefit of the doubt just off the fact how the game was played tbh but i dunno.

Thats enough of me sticking up for a Tranmere player anyway

Just watching not the top 20 and apparently Roberts has the best save % in L2….

He’s a quality keeper with his hands, but his kicking is dreadful. And I mean, dreadful.

That said, I’ve always preferred keepers to be goalkeepers first, rather than the modern trend for them to be half an outfield players, which apart from the very top keepers usually tends to lead to you losing goals because the keeper isn’t good enough to do it.

I fear his ceiling might be quite low because of the was the game is going, but he definitely has some good attributes.

I agree.

I think the key is that his teammates know his strengths and weaknesses. No point a risky back pass if you’re placing Roberts under pressure. Especially if the likely outcome is a hurried clearance into touch.

What Roberts and the staff need to do is keep working on it.

Jamille Matt- to replace Adebayo!

Yeah its definately not great - i would say its on par with what weve seen from our keepers over the last few years……. Rushworth aside!

Hmm I think Simkin was better with his feet to be honest. The rest were all pretty average but nothing to worry about.

Roberts though … even kicking out of hand it’s a bit of a lottery where the ball will actually go which is astonishing to be honest.
