Walsall line up

Priestly isn’t an improvement on Monthe from what I’ve seen. And Riley doesn’t impress me either.

I’ve said this on numerous occasions already, the lad will prove to be an outstanding asset for us, and will attract many admiring glances from the likes of Posh etc. so when he does begin to shine we should try to avoid a DJ situation and try to tie him down early.
I do believe that once the ‘best’ selection from our squad begins to ‘gel’ we could find ourselves in and around the big spenders buying their way to the top. Baring being shafted by injuries we may find ourselves there or thereabouts come April. just MHO.

He’s a massive improvement over White, who he has essentially replaced.

Yes, PF plays the RCB role that White was mostly used in. Hussey is the one taking over from Monthe on the left side of the 3.

Yes to be honest young Harry Williams looks as good in the few cameo minutes as Hayden White although admit both have different strengths weaknesses tbh

I agree so far he looks a downgrade, Monthe did down tools towards the end of season but always looked strong and had a forward run in him. I actually think Riley will do well in midfield, I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet

Can Draper be recalled January like Bennett was as this could be a major blow again if he is doing well?

It seems it’s pretty universal on here that we’re 3 maybe 4 quality players short of potentially a decent side that can challenge and be competitive in this league .I say potentially because even if we make those signings it’s then up to Sadler & Waddock to mould them into a team to do just that .at the moment we don’t have those players .So wether Sadler is capable or not we won’t know until then .without them he’s got a tough job on his hands .he’s certainly an intelligent guy and I’d expect he would be on Trivela’s back to get those funds to get that quality in .we can all see what’s required. I would be astounded if he doesn’t see the same .this is his first job as a manager I think he’s an ambitious guy and won’t want to fail .

Is Riley totally finished from the bad injury then?

For most of last season plenty on here were pinning their hopes on him being the answer to the lacklustre midfield combos but seems he’s just going to be a utility player and only start games when there’s injuries.

I agree with others, midfield combination simply hasn’t been good enough in final third pretty much since 2019. Just filled with endless defensive players who are too slow to pass forward and get the wide players in the game and so that’s the start of the creativity issues.

You’d think with McEntee slowly developing into a DM and Comley around for another year that’s enough and there may be room in the budget for one attacking midfielder near the end of the window perhaps.

To me Riley doesn’t look comfortable running. I know there was talk last season where he had insoles in his boots but I’m not sure whether they was before they got to the bottom of his foot problem. The way he runs just doesn’t look natural, as if he is having to adapt to a new way. Might just be me interpreting what I see.

Can’t say I noticed that tbh I will have a look next time
However positionally and on the ball he brings more to the midfield than some of the occupants last year
I would go as far to say a midfield of Hutch Stirk and Riley wouldn’t be the worse in the division tbf but another class midfielder would lift not only the team but the club and fan base

Riley came with a huge reputation, I hope a full pre-season will make all the difference. I think at his best he’s a hugely classy performer and makes the game look very easy.

I phoned my son in law earlier and I joked that the Rochdale defenders are still probably going to have nightmares about Freddy Draper, oh how we laughed. He could be a real find and I think he will put big pressure on Doug Taylor for that second striking spot.

Not good how much strapping Draper had on his leg.
Probably needs resting, rather than making what ever injury worse.

Put pressure on Doug Taylor for a starting place?. Are you serious? Have you seen Doug play. If he’s in the first 11 we may as well all pack it in. One of the worst strikers I’ve ever seen. Makes bakayoko, Lavery and Barrowman etc look like Ronaldo in comparison.

Far too early to be judging DJT.

Not sure why some people on here are so happy when a young player isn’t Ronaldo immediately, in league 2, on about £600 a week, playing for Walsall.

That’s what Byfield is for, DJ can do the same, it’s called being part of a squad which gives youngsters a chance to make a career in the game. Some will make it, many won’t but nobody tries to fail!

To say he’s one of the worst strikers ever is at best hyperbole, and at worst… well, I won’t go there…

I honestly don’t get it.

One the first noticeable things about Draper was he was constantly on the move, looking to make runs in behind the defence both with and without the ball.

Good to hear.

It’s just online bullying from a man that is old enough to be his grandad. I wonder how he’d feel if someone was bullying and trolling his grandson in the same way?

Pal I really do wish you would stop slating the kid. It’s getting tiresome and isn’t doing us any favours.

I think that depends on the terms of his loan.

He can definitely be sold by Lincoln in January though.

An 18yo striker doing well is bound to be watched by scouts from bigger clubs.
