Wayne Evans RIP

Wayne was a solid no frills defender who I enjoyed watching in a Walsall shirt, sad news indeed, condolences to all his family and friends.

I’m pretty sure I was Wayne Evans (though could have been Williams - who we also sadly lost recently) that Kenny Hibbitt once said in his programme notes was always the first name he put on the team sheet as he knew he could rely on him every single game - and he wished he had 10 others in Wayne’s mould to add to it.

RIP Mr Dependable.

A part of my earliest teams as a fan. 183 appearances is some effort. But obviously, football is irrelevant at this time. RIP to him and thoughts to his family.

It does highlight to me (without wishing to open a debate on whether Evans deserves to be in this club, as it’s not the place) that the club, and possibly Express & Star, don’t do much with legends, or even ex players. I found the podcasts with ex players by Yellow Ribbon very interesting recently, and they were only recent ex players in Liam Bennett and Joss Labadie. It would be nice if we started doing more beyond 15 minutes on the pitch broadcast over speakers nobody can hear, with players like this even just an interesting feature in the E&S or something, before, in cases like this, it is too late.

Yes - I can remember that well, but can anyone recall which match that was?

RIP Wayne. Always thought of him as a ā€œMr Reliableā€ in our mid/late 90s teams

Very sad news.

I see a funding page has been set up
To assist with the repatriation

Why don’t the club get on the phone to Rochdale. Arrange a game. Proceeds etc to the fund.

Surely this can be done

Probably not the thread for a rant.

So I shall calmly ask that with the amount of money flying about in the game, where on earth are the PFA in circumstances like this?

:cry:Offer here

So, so sad, a true Saddler, who gave his all to this club.
A selfless player, a proud man but also a quiet man off the field.

They don’t make footballers like that anymore.

Sleep well Wayne, you will be missed by many
