What constitutes a 'good' season?

Think that’s a bit ott. There have been glimpses of some very good stuff. The first 15 mins of the second half against Wrexham for example. But it’s not consistent and maintained. Plus defence you could drive a bus through. Unless Sadler can sort out the defence we will be close to the bottom of the table.

Yes. Agree we can’t carry on conceding goals like we have at Morecambe and Wrexham.

Yes I agree with that also.

Like this season for example. To have any chance of promotion we need another quality midfielder and a quality right wing back as a minimum. I don’t think that is harsh or unfair it just seems obvious. Whether the funds are there to do that or not is a different matter but if we really are serious then that is what it will take just to have a chance.

Other than that it will just be rinse and repeat again next summer in my opinion anyway.

Keep seeing this ‘strongest league two’ mantra being bandied about. Makes it all the more baffling that we install a rookie manager with no recognised RWB and a midfield consisting of a CB. I mean what could go wrong! :see_no_evil:

It is glaringly.as I’ve previously said, and Sadler must know that or he’s not the manger we all hoped he’ll be .this is his first season as a manger and if he’s ambitious he’d be banging on Ben door telling him what he needs. still couple weeks to deadline fingers crossed

Best sketch ever

Billhooks!

Never to be repeated. All time classic sketch. Ronnie Corbett and Harry Enfield did a sort of cover which was good as well…

Survival, if the first 4 games are anything to go by! There are important gaps in the squad and the likes of Hussey, Farquharson, DJT and Matt haven’t impressed. Draper, Stirk, Oteh and Tierney look okay but the jury is out on Williams.

We’re in Season 6 of “not giving it a real go”, more like a half-arsed attempt again!

As Take That once famously said ‘just have a little patience’. Three games, two away, the two promotion favourites already played and we’ve completed well. Flaws to iron out, of that there is no doubt, but I think we have the makings of a decent side and with some youth plenty of potential to improve. I’ve advocated any new manager needs 3 transfer windows to truly make the side and squad his own to be judged on and people are moaning about Sadler after 3 league games, absolute madness.

Harsh on Farqhuarson when he hasnt played a league game

I agree with you. I constantly warn about judging players after a few games but judging someone who hasn’t yet played goes a bit far!! In fact of the 4 mentioned only Hussey has played in every game. I give up!

I saw him in 3 pre-season games - he looked ropey. His passing was poor and he got caught out of position. Perhaps I should reserve my opinion until he’s played in a competitive game but I’m not pinnng my hopes on him to solve our defensive problems.

The problem is Croddy, this has been said every single season since we dropped into this league. Every single season.

I actually have bought into it a little more this year, I think with DJ we will always pose a threat, and with Daniels we have an excellent player and leader. That should move us up a few places.

But I will never knock anyone for any cyniscim because after so many years of hearing the same things it makes you weary. The club holds a record for the most number of false dawns in a decade!

I expect us to do better but also would not be surprised if it went tits up again, just because its happenrd for 7 solid years, 3 different owners and cough…the same CEOs :joy:

Great summary. Exactly how I feel.

Last season was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I normally try and reset every summer - not any more.

I’m expecting failure now. What an awful place to be in.

Thanks Dan. Cheers Stef. Many thanks Leigh.

You’ve gone from Take That to Madness. You might have linked it together with the New Order of recruitment, mentioning The Replacements currently in the team, hopefully going in One Direction, together with playing away in our third kit making each game a Green Day.

I love this whenever something gets fair criticism.

If you look back to Dean Smiths 5-6 seasons in charge, there was a plan and progression over time. In his final season, we only signed 3 players in the summer - it really was incremental change. I think we have to get back to that situation: it’s very difficult to “give it a real go” when you are changing most of the team every season.

Even with all the changes, we still lack quality. Did we really need to release the likes of Maddox? He could have offered a bit more quality in midfield instead of shoe-horning a centre-half into that space. The jury’s out for me on our transfer dealing in the summer. It’s a bit like the curate’s egg: some good, some bad.
