No no, I’m the one who’s sorry, if I had known that my simply written responses would have confused your brain to the point you think I’d like us to lose 4-0, then that’s my bad
Yeah, things might go to pot this season too, shall we all boo the team from the first minute on Saturday to be on the safe side?
Err you seem confused. I said 4 0-0s not 4-0.
Well it would save a bit of time.
Ahh, you meant four 0-0’s.
My point still stands
Not really. You were using the poor defence as stick to beat the side.
I would say the poor defence is partly a side effect of trying to be more threatening up front. Personally I’m happy to see that risk being taken although some of the silly goals need to be cut out.
I am mourning Tier 3 mid table obscurity when we can’t even manage mid table in Tier 4 based on recent history.
I get you are trying to be positive. If we finish top ten and play some nice football then yeah that is acceptable (for now) but let’s be honest, as a club we need higher ambitions than that.
We’re a terrible team too watch, so far anyway. We have no midfield, which has been the case going on about 5 years now. Zero creativity, and Hutch isnt reliable
Yes I agree it’s in the context of this season.
Top 10 this season is pleasing/acceptable. That’s also in the context of the strongest league 2 I think there’s ever been.
Long term we should be aiming higher, I agree.
Well we have to disagree. I much prefer watching us now so far to last season
That’s not to say there’s not room for improvement, but if the club/ Sadler are trying to do the right thing I don’t get where being negative gets you.
That i agree with, this divison has never been so strong, and top 10 would be ‘fine’.
Personally i can see us stamping down our usual 17th spot, we just do not have the manager to make playoffs this year, or the midfield to be fair…
Fair point.
Genuine question, do you see us EVER going back up too league 1? I’ve got to be honest, i have my doubts
I think my problem is that finishing top ten this season (which I don’t think we will actually) but anyway even if we did that is no guarantee we will kick on next season.
The incremental growth stuff sounds good in theory but when it comes to the football side of things it isn’t as straightforward as it sounds.
If any player excels, especially one of the younger ones, they will more than likely be sold. If players aren’t good enough then they are moved on obviously.
Some examples of problems with building a side over time.
Draper may well do really well this season but is very unlikely to be with us next season. Say Hutch really kicked on and became the player he has the potential to be, likely to be vultures moving in and he will be gone. Players like Daniels and Johnson who are so key will be a year older and you never know what problems may come with that.
They are just hypothetical examples but to me, at some point, if you want promotion you are going to have to really go for it, or you are just hoping to get lucky, which seems less likely to happen than ever.
Yes, I do. Maybe not this season, but I do think Trivela are putting the club on a sound footing.
The issue is other clubs are also savvier/stronger. Plus there are no longer any basket case clubs in the division it seems.
I can’t really blame Trivela if other clubs have upped their game.
Yes. They are very valid points. Your Draper point is very true and that’s one reason I don’t like loans.
Although there’s variation season to season, Pretty much long term the football club is as strong as the infrastructure surrounding it, so as long as there are signs of growth off the pitch (e.g 3k season ticket sales , saddlers club, freehold etc) I think ultimately we are on an upward trajectory that will translate into promotion one season soon(ish)
I agree.
All this incremental stuff is just a convenient excuse to hide behind when things aren’t as good as we’d like. Just keep rolling it forward every season.
At some point a real push for promotion needs to take place rather than this medium term planning.
That’s a cracking post in my view only thing I’d add to that is you need to sustain that “really have a go “to a period of at leat 3 seasons .dont think we’re in season 1 of that process at the moment .
