The risk is if we continue to stagnate the possibility of dropping out of the league becomes bigger. I’m not a doom merchant by any means, even if my posts have been a bit more negative of late. It isn’t something that should be ignored. It only takes one bad season and it is goodbye football league. Quite where that would leave Trivella and their plans I’m not sure.
All transfers come with a risk but if we are serious about getting promoted then we have to speculate a little sometimes, especially if there is a bit of extra money that wasn’t budgeted for.
I suspect we might get a few quid for him getting promoted with Luton, but Pomlett saying if he ends up in the premiership etc I still think he meant if he was bought by a premier league club, not expecting Luton to actually end up as one.
I would imagine they would wind up their company and move onto something else having been proven to know nothing about football as it would be devastating for their stated aim to create a stable of football association clubs.
My take also. If the big payday was for Luton getting promoted, as opposed to a sell on, then what a risk that was.
First of all, how many people would have bet big on Luton getting promoted to the Prem, but more importantly, how about if they had sold him in January for 10 million, and our deal was only if THEY got promoted.
Doesn’t make sense, however, there may well be a combination, as in the case of Rico.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Pomlett has communicated a mixed message, but I’m not going to beat him up for it, he made the right call in selling him to Luton as it turned out, particularly as Eli would have gone for nowt at the end of the season. The big risk now of course is that he runs down his contract and leaves them for nothing.
If we get a decent amount and there is a plan to offset the 700k I can imagine
A bit put towards the playing budget or back room set up
A bit towards developing the academy
A bit towards development of another revenue stream to make the club more sustainable
The lower the amount the less we will spread it around tbh it will depend on the best business case for the various options
It’s because they were all taken over by dynamic, forward thinking, and passionate owners, brought about by them reaching the very edge, rather than being slowly drained of life to furnish certain peoples pension funds.
Yes, the Walsall patient has been kept (barely) alive so that its organs could be harvested by our Number 1 surgeon. The body is still in intensive care, trying to be nurtured back to health by a junior doctor. We’ve just been promised a transfusion by our friends in Luton - how much of that actually makes its way into the patient we’ll have to see!!
Add DJ early on and it is an excellent signal of our intentions.
It gives the fans optimism.
Barring injury, it lessens the chances of relegation.
It gives the new manager a focal point as well as some continuity.
Most importantly, it shows future players who we intend to attract, that we are not content to stand still or go backwards.
Without being greedy, offer him a good wage on a 3 year contract: if I had just had a baby and was 30, I’d find that kind of offer (let’s say £4k) very hard to turn down.
People know a limited company can’t make money disappear. That’s illegal of course. By disappearing they mean it will be spread across admin costs, infrastructure, servicing debt. Basically used to fund anything but quality league 2 footballers!!!
You see this is where for all the stick Gamble gets he can actually show he is a good enough administrator and negotiator in certain situations (I assume he plays a part in transfer dealings in and out of the club). Not like Adebayo joined a promotion favourite like Bournemouth or West Brom just relegated in which cause a potential clause would be smaller as it’s generally expected.
I can’t quite remember what he was sold for and what the add ons were termed in the press reports. Of course he was six months away from leaving on free transfer so I doubt it will be a huge amount but extra 200-300k is more than enough to get in a decent striker at this level so would be happy enough as it simply has to go into squad building rather than phantom Saddlers club renovations.
