Who do you / we despise and why - Football clubs that is

Wolves, Vile, Blues, Stoke, Preston. Probably in that order.

Gotta say I agree with you, Cats. I don’t really hate any particular club. In most cases I am indifferent to other teams and their fans although I do have something of an antipathy bordering on disdain for any club that simply buys its way to “success”, Man City being the prime example, Newcastle being the latest (although to be fair to Newcastle, they haven’t splashed a ginormous amount of cash YET; they have mainly just benefited from a charismatic and effective new manager - so far). Obviously there is a degree of hypocrisy in my disdain for buying success as I was chuffed about the takeover of my beloved WFC because of the purchase of the ground and the prospect of investment in the playing side. This is known as conceding the principle or, if not admitted, hypocrisy. Still, I can live with a bit of hypocrisy if Walsall FC benefits .
Having said all that, I actually “support” a variety of other teams (in a lukewarm sort of way) for various reasons. By lukewarm, I mean I take an interest in their results and hope they win (unless they happen to be playing the Saddlers - different feelings then ). Amongst my secondary teams are Man U (most of my perfectly lovely in-laws support them), Wolves (family friend used to play for them in the 50s/60s and gave me free tickets), Swansea (I live here now), Arbroath (saw them play once when my uncle was stationed there) and so on. All good fun, really and, as I said, it’s no contest when, however unlikely or rare it may be, they play US, the Super Saddlers!

I used to dislike the old Wimbledon because they were violent. Of the top clubs, I remember when we lost 1-0 at Old Trafford and I was in my mate’s car and saw any number of coaches with red and white scarves and the like. At first, I thought it was the Saddlers fans but, in fact, it was the United fans from their heartlands of Bournemouth, Guildford and the like. That has always put me off them.

It tends to be individuals I cannot stand. Cristiano Ronaldo is one and, at a lower level, Joey Barton. I hated Vinnie Jones too.

Viz used to have a competition to find the Man Utd fan who lived closest to Old Trafford. Think it was won by some bloke from Northampton. :joy:

Adding Mansfield to the list.

Steve Crossman on R5L described the Wrexham ground as “beautiful” earlier, which made me wonder whether they have bulldozed the ground and rebuilt Wells Cathedral on the site. It was a bizarre comment, I thought.

Stoke - just hate them & that ludicrous mascot pottermous or whatever it is called
Vale - just don’t like them
Salford - don’t need to explain
Man Utd - blah blah blah

Even their new main stand, with the curved roof, is ugly. Quite odd looking with the two wings attached as if an afterthought.

Are you sure about that? Most “big clubs” have coaches that run from nearby towns and villages. It’s a social thing, often arranged around local traditional working class social clubs that have enough match-day patronage to arrange a bus to the ground. I think we played Man City away what 3 or 4 times in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, each time I was a happily invited guest on my Man CIty supporting pal’s bus run from his local, The Friendship in Fallowfield. If you exit St James’s park on Barrack Road where the away buses park, they are outnumbered by buses to places like Ashington, Hexham, Bedlington etc etc for home fans.

…because your anecdotal evidence is best. Null hypothesis: premier league team fans are found across a greater area than smaller teams. Your counter theory: they must be local buses.

I actually have no problem with Wrexham, their owners have been fantastic for their community and helped many local businesses.

I can’t see the issue, Salford are far worse a project for a few bored ex Pros who have soon disappeared.

I concur there is no comparison between Salford & Wrexham. Have no problem with the Welsh club, just wanna get out of league two before they arrive.

This was on the M6 and they all had posters in the back (Dorset Reds, Guildford Reds etc.)

Man City, before they took the money, were the local team and I used to like them.

We’ll meet them at some point, I’m sure.

I don’t like Wrexham much, but fair play to this fan who got his message on the BBC with a concealed flap on his foil FA Cup that got lifted when the cameras went to him!

Chelsea - 600 million spent in two transfer windows, pretty disgusting. And still can’t score a goal  Maybe they should have got DJ in for 6 months :upside_down_face:
