Who should we keep?

Watching the abject capitulation over the last 3 months by a group of players that seem to lack bottle and basic ability- not to mention the crap management- who should we keep for next season, almost certainly in League 2? I would keep:

Hornby; Barrett, McEntee, Okagbue, Allen, Weir, Browne, Williams; Stirk, Adomah, Jellis, Lakin, Thomas; Amantchi,

I would also try to get Hall, Chang, Asiimwe and Simkin back.

I would release or transfer list the dead wood in the squad, namely Daniels (finished), Farquharson (never fit), Liam Gordon (can’t defend and off too much on international duty), Comley (finished), Earing (always injured), Josh Gordon (more bookings than goals!!), Harrison (off to non-league!), Jamma (finished), DJ (not worth £3k a week!).

As for Mat Sadler, if he doesn’t get us promoted then he should do the decent thing and resign!

Sorry @Saddlertd, but this should wait until after the season finishes (play offs or otherwise). Can this be locked @simon, please?

Come on Saddlers fans! Let’s stick together because these players need our support.

We can worry about recriminations after the fat lady has sung.

We’ve lost our golden boy, but we still have a team that can get the job done with a bit of luck, self belief and togetherness!

(and yeah, I know, I’ve gone through the 5 stages of grief in the last 48 hours!)!

Fair play I was been flippant

I disagree - it’s precisely the time to consider this as half the players seem to have given up!! And it’s just speculation anyway - the fans will have very little say in who we actually sign/keep - if we did, would Josh Gordon be here?!

Start with not keeping the manager

I agree Stretch (that’s a surprise for late on a Sunday evening..)

You must have been on the sauce all afternoon.

Get rid of the lot, should all be banned from the sport following the last 3 months

Biggest embarrassment bottle job in the history of football, genuinely can not think of a worst one

Agree in part, but this is a fairly unique situation.

Can’t be many fan bases in world football contemplating how a squad with three months of relegation form might hack it in the league above next season.

I don’t think Trivela will make any moves until the season ends. If we get promoted, Sadler stays, if not, the owners will (no doubt) make the necessary changes, the fans will demand it.

It is a unique situation- I don’t understand how the players have gone from being “the best team ever” in the history of Division 4, to being in relegation form. I just don’t think that is all the manager’s fault. The players must shoulder a large part of the blame. Losing Lowe is part of the problem, but our expected goals in the first half versus Barrow was 0.06!! We could have Harry Kane upfront with that lack of creativity and it would make no difference! The problem is in the midfield: we needed a really good number 8 in January, instead we got a Stoke development player and a guy from Birmingham who hadn’t played for months due to a near-career-ending injury!

Obviously it depends on contracts.

From what I gather, contracted for next season are:

Connor Barrett, Taylor Allen, David Okagbue (bafflingly), Charlie Lakin, Brandon Comley, Josh Gordon (bafflingly), Levi Amantchi.

Not arsed about any of the loans currently at the club so assume they will be off.

Can’t see us keeping hold of Liam Gordon. The lack of credit he gets from Walsall fans won’t carry over to other clubs scouting networks. Harry Williams has supposedly already agreed a deal somewhere else, ditto Jellis but can’t say I’m arsed about him toddling off. I’m working on the basis they will be gone.

That leaves:

Ryan Stirk, Oisin McEntee, Donovan Daniels, Jack Earing, Albert Adomah, Danny Johnson, Priestly Farquharson, Jamille Matt, Sam Hornby, Evan Weir, Ronan Maher, Rico Browne.

I’d keep Maher, I think the lack of patience he gets, especially considering his performances literally every loan spell, is utterly bizarre. And if I saw Danny Johnson actually getting the game time he required, I’d keep him too, but he won’t.

After that I’m struggling to care about the rest. Crazy state of affairs considering how this season looked at one point.

I can’t even think about this at the moment.

Can’t think logically. Too hurt by what has happened.

Whatever players we keep, please not Sadler as manager.

Don’t we have a 1 year option on Jellis? Maybe Weir also.
I think we will offer feals to McCentee who will turn it down (not bothered personally) Stirk who I think warrants a deal and could improve under the right management. Maher will be offered a deal but think he turns it down if Sadler is manager.

We do, I wouldn’t bother.

Yeah, but rumours were he was off in January to a club actually paying money for him, but is instead waiting for the summer. If those rumours aren’t true, and another club isn’t already in for him, I assume we will take up the option and he will stay.

Weir for me is more than good enough in the attacking aspect of an outside centre half but way off it defensively. He is young and think he has enough about him to improve. I would like to see how he does with another year behind him.

Nathan Lowe was (and now is again) a Stoke development player.

The Stoke midfield player we signed is a first choice current Irish U21 international, and the Birmingham player is a really good number 8 who played for Birmingham in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in January.

If we did manage to go up I’d keep Liam Gordon Weir and RAM the latter 2 as back ups the rest won’t be good enough for that level absolutely no chance.Stirk for one is miles too slow.
Williams and Jellis will leave otherwise I’d keep those two also.

Hall may be worth looking at of the loan signings.
