AFC Wimbledon (N) - League 2 Play-Off Final, Mon 26th May, 3:01 pm

I’m not going to post a picture of my Dad, cos quite frankly his dress sense was appalling

Same as you said though, the most passionate Walsall fan I ever met. The last thing he did was watch England in his hospital bed, almost 18 years ago now. His favourite saying was Walsall FC, which is why I attach it to the end of my posts often, rather than UTS.

He never got to go to Wembley with Walsall, but my boys will be there to represent him. I am sure he will be there also, if there are boozers where ever he is, he will probably miss the first 15 minutes

I followed Walsall because of him, and pretty much everything else. I still live my life by everything he taught me.

For all the Saddlers that have passed on, they left so much more than memories behind.

Do it for them all Walsall boys.

Beautiful mate. Resonates with me so much. Everything i learnt and values he taught me i still value each day. Loved how he missed his customary sunday lunch beer to take me to fellows park to see the lads play wolves in the snow.
He loved the reds and made sure i knew which team to support growing up.

For every saddler in the sky.
Do it for them :red_circle::white_circle:

I remember that game well. Fairly sure Dad sorted a lock-in at the Red Cow in Pelsall later. Fairly sure we played Derby on a Sunday morning around the same time also. Can’t remember why.

My Dad also called Walsall “The lads” I’d be amazed if they hadn’t crossed paths at some point in time.

Absolutely no doubt their paths would have crossed mate. The mid 80s were a special time to see the lads. Fantastic football. Shedload of goals. The best time.
Let’s do this.

The Chesterfield one was a good one. High pressure and he just slotted it into the corner, not sure Ryan Boot would’ve got there if he’d gone the right way. Vale was nicely taken aswell so he’s improved on them after the Leicester miss.

All I can remember in recent times is shootout losses and endless misses in league games, probably worse that most of the strikers here in last 5/6 years really haven’t been very good at them which breeds negativity through the team.

Certainly feel if it does go to penalties Simkin is probably going to have to save twice to have a chance of winning.

The squad were at St George’s Park today training on the Wembley sized pitch…good prep!

We may see a final minute tactical substitution of Hornby on for Simkin if it goes to pens. He has done well in shoot outs this season

Well that’s me underway - the journey has begun. A 7 hour overnight ferry to Aberdeen - with no cabin - nothing says dedication like sleeping on the floor!

As I have mentioned before I’m going to Wembley wearing my Walsall Cardiff 2001 bucket hat and my replica play off final top, and to save any embarrassment some other clothes as well.

‘Home’ team according to the Officials shirts

I won’t be there due to circumstances. I think i am suffering with some kind of mental “burnout” some weird shit, and there are other reasons. Heads all over the gaff. I will maybe go to the locker to watch it so I can feel the Walsall vibe.

But I hope they do it for themselves and for the young ones that havent seen Jack shit.

I’m still lucky enough I’ve seen us win a play off and a league title. I’ve held onto that for nearly 20 years. Make us proud again boys. Do it for the town.

I am on the hunt for my Grandad’s hat tomorrow now. I must have it for Wembley. I also plan on wearing other clothes, no one wants to see the unclothed version of me, not even my wife!

I think I’ve still got my Don Goodman wig from Cardiff. Might not go with a bucket hat

Anyone remember the comedian Freddie Davies?

Freddie “Parrot-face” Davies?

As funny as The Black Death

He had one joke, and he wore a hat just like that.

Desperate!

I think this is the most important game I’ve attended.

Moved away from Walsall when I was 5 years old in 1965.

I wasn’t at Cardiff, but I was at the Liverpool semi-finals, Wembley against Bristol City, and the victory over Northampton to remain in League 1.

But this is huge. A 1st promotion in almost 20 years and the opportunity to create a new generation of Saddlers fans.

Nervous, but full of hope.

Me too ,comes in handy for fancy dress

So do i. I only travelled 3miles and back to pick up my T shirt and bucket hat. I do look like a flowerpot man but who cares!! Everyone who has seen it thinks I am mad…well I am and I admit it. Mad for a Walsall victory. I think we will do it…Hall and Adomah being the key players on that big Wembley pitch. UTS
BTW…I agree that the T shirt is really good quality.
