Chris Hussey Retires

281 posts, and all that matters to me is that the club has lost an experienced player who can’t be properly replaced until January.
Apart from that, I’ll just say “good luck Chris and all the best for the future”. End of story!

Plenty of good enough free agents out there

Yes it’s quite unbelievable how some people show zero compassion for a fellow human being.

Definitely some on here would.

How close is Menayese to returning? Didn’t Sadler say he thought he’d be back by October?

He showed that he was more than capable as a L2 CB before that dip after he signed permanently, and apparently he impressed at Hartlepool too before he got injured - so it just depends whether he can regain that previously displayed good form on a consistent basis as to whether we need to look any further for a Hussey replacement once he’s available.

From what we saw at Salford, Dave is too raw (at LCB at any rate - in the few minutes he had against Colchester on the other side he didn’t look too bad) and Williams has not quite yet got to grips with the step-up from non-league, but we still have McEntee and Allen as fallbacks (or even Comley if he regains fitness first) to fill the gap until Rollin is ready.

And there is even less urgency if MS drops his commitment to 3 at the back and goes with a 4 instead.

Yes, that is what I would argue too. But the Taylor Allen option does allow a back three with a left-footer. Menayese, even if fit, is right-footed.

Somedays, El Nombre’s observations/opinions are often valid. Somedays, he makes a complete tit of himself with his over-zealous responses.

Today is a tit day.

We move on….

The post you were responding to was whinging about outrage. I’m asking you what outrage. Quite simply really, and considering the volley of questions you fired at me early, I’m surprised you are so volition when the shoe is on the other foot.

At least I do have the former :man_shrugging:

Yeah, everyone here is so open to everyone else’s views but me :joy::joy::joy:

There’s one thing I’ll never be, and that’s a hypocrite :man_shrugging:

I haven’t read any posts on this tbh but can’t get me head around the fact that a club gives a player a contract for a period of time, if club want to get shot of the said player they are punished by having to pay up his contract however a player can simply rip the contract up and say “I’m done”.
No doubt he’d have received a signing on fee and walked away a couple of months later.

As far as I’m aware a player can retire at any time but it then stops them playing anywhere else for the length of their contract and they surrender any further earnings on that contract I believe so there are caveats to just ripping up a contract. I would think as well there would be caveats on players surrounding signing on fees if substantial and the player may retire during their contract such as it’s paid in instalments rather than one go and they lose future instalments.

Reading between the lines of statement I wouldn’t be surprised if Hussey settles in to his new job and potentially considers part time football which may be why it was more mutual than just a full on I’ve retired.

Separately to other arguments in the thread and this is speculation but I would have thought the club did do some statistical analysis on this probability to this as a quick google turned up that within 15 months of getting a degree just over 57% of people have a full time job with some more part time. This seems perfectly reasonable to assume we would have got the full year from him usually but on this occasion he got an offer too good to refuse and it may not come round again so he in my opinion has to take this. You only get one life and ultimately he’s made a choice that he feels will suit his life best. Good luck to him and all the best it didn’t work out as we fans or the club wanted but ultimately I totally get his decision as there’s more to life than work football and I hope this decision turns out to be the right one for himself and his family and now I will get back to supporting what we have at the club as that’s what matters to me as a fan.

Well said. That should really be the end of it.

Chris Hussey signed for pre season , got paid for pre season
Then plays 5 games one including a sending off. Doesn’t retire until red card expires , probably not doing much training and focussing on his education while away sent off as he obviously wasn’t motivated to play
Gets paid for that time at a very very good wage and a signing on bonus
Then leaves us in the end of September with no replacement who’s ready to sign ? ( done a pre season ) with an injured captain and 1 other experienced cb
No I’m not going to defend him, he has truly screwed us over for his own benefit with absolutely no care for the club
So no I won’t respect his decision
Guys stuck 2 fingers up at the club and skipped to the bank
His ash tayor level bad or maybe even worse in my eyes and nothing will change that

You need to get a life mate. Overreaction of the year

I’d be very surprised the club put out the statement they did if all of that were true. I imagine there was open dialogue between both sides etc. If he really did wait until he was about to be asked to be back in the match squad and went “oh yea I’ve retired” I would imagine the club statement would have been much more formal and cold with no quotes from the player etc. It feels much more like adults Sat round had discussions and came to a mutual decision that was best for all in the circumstances even if it wasn’t the ideal scenario when pen was originally put to paper.
