Colchester Utd (A) February 8th, 3pm

Can we not play in black anymore please? We should have been in red.

If he ran over my mutt, I’d even more appreciate the excellent job Stirk has done so far this season. Unless we want a 2 yard sideways passing player at the base of midfield, he and Lakin are the only two players the have who can play this role.

And that’s the problem in my view. We have absolutely no creativity in midfield, Stirk and Lakin were fine when we were dominating teams. We are no longer dominating teams, which is why our defensive frailties are being exposed. Teams are no longer afraid of us, and no team should rely on coming out in the 2nd half and steamrollering teams into submission. It’s too late now , we’ve got to manage with the squad we’ve got,but it doesn’t help having all these forwards in the squad and a couple of rottweilers in midfield who rely on Taylor Allen and Weir to put decent through ball to them.

It looked like he showed 2nd yellow then red. Hope I’m correct.

Even if he did, I think that’s 5 yellows for him - isn’t that a suspension?

Again, I think either I’ve missed how this forum works or others have.

The match day thread bit. It’s all about that single game. That one off moment out of fifty odd in a season.

We could be 20 points clear at the top and it would still be ok on this bit to go “that was bloody awful. All eleven were shit and the manager has had a nightmare”. Similarly we could be bottom, win a game a go “wow, that was bloody marvellous”.

It’s about the emotion and reaction around that moment in time.

If things are continually ace or continually shit, then there will be threads in AAW which question whether the manager is good or bad, whether the team is good or bad, whether the owners are good or bad.

But this part reflects the emotions of supporting a football team. Getting things way out of context either way. That huge roller coaster of big highs and lows. It’s what football does. And for the most part why we love it.

For context, we’re still having a brilliant season but having lost our talisman everyone in the squad has dropped a level or two. A “meh” transfer window and we’re now performing like the average fourth division club we are. Yesterday even worse than average.

There’s a lot in what you say theres not any real scrapers when the going gets tough. They tend to disappear, we lack that player with presence in the centre of the park that can grab the initiative back Jeliss on top form is the only player who comes close .But he also tends to more impressive when we dominate games .

Sorry if I posted on incorrect thread, but Futuresobright is constant Troll regarding Stirk and required a questioning reply.

Sorry wasn’t meant for you

Looking the goals we conceded yesterday it was disappointing to see that Barrett was just jogging back to try and close down for both of them. He should have been busting a gut to get back. If he’s steuggling with fatigue or injury for whatever reason then that comes back to Sadler and the rest of the coaching team to make a change during the game.

Not just picking Barrett out. The first goal was a cacophony of errors by us and we should have done a lot better. Need to refocus and bloody quickly. Get back tonwinning ways abd this will be quickly forgotten. Anything less than 4 pts from next 2 home games and i fear we wont make top 3.

I agree, unfortunately.

Only a week or maybe two ago, I couldn’t see a scenario where we didn’t get top 3. Now it is a concern.

We have a decent run of fixtures coming up. Now is the time to snap out of this, or it could become terminal. We aren’t a rubbish team all of a sudden, we can still do this. If we could win 4 out of the next 5 for example, which is more than possible then we are almost there. A big time in the season coming up right now. Let’s hope we can do it, I think it will be the biggest dagger in the heart I have ever experienced with Walsall if we don’t do this now, and I’m not sure where it leaves us as a club if we start in League 2 next season.

It doesn’t bear thinking about!
To throw away a 12 point lead would be catastrophic, and I’m afraid terminal for Mat Sadler.
We should have signed an experienced CB in Jan, as we only have Harry Williams, and he’s not fully fit.
In fact, our transfer dealings were very meh to say the least. Don’t expect Harrison to be a regular goalscorer, as that won’t happen!
Similarly, the midfield can’t be expected to score every week either.
DJ is not the answer, so who is? Wheatley? It would be great, but too much expectation in my view.
I don’t know the answer, but Sadler needs to!

Williams isn’t really experienced, has he even played 50 games at a professional level yet?

Still, they are the same players that got us where we are.

I must say I was a little annoyed that the two new midfielders, neither were even on the bench, which suggests they aren’t considered good enough. That may be a bit of a reach, but surely if they were good enough to offer an option in midfield, one of them would have made the matchday squad.

I agree it doesn’t bear thinking about. I was so sure we’d do it, I’ve been pumping the kids up, telling them these are their days. Will break their hearts, and mine.

Blooming eck…cheer up. We are still in a great position and as someone once said “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” The transfer window was decent in my view ,Harrison is a good player and Levi looks useful. The 2 young lads in midfield will be needed and I haven’t given up on Wheatley.

It wasn’t a great transfer window when you consider out of 7 signings only 2 made the matchday squad.

We are still in a good position but it is starting to get a bit concerning. It would be a disaster if we don’t do this now.
