Hmmmm two holding players with a back 3? At home?
Seems like overkill to me…
I do think we lacked control in the game today though - I think their manager did a job on us in the middle.

Knowles and hutch argue a lot
Which I understand from hutch as I’d get pissed off to if everytime I played yu on you blasted the ball over or ran out of play
I’d rather shoot from 25 years than pass to knowles Aswell so can’t blame hutch
Hutch losing faith in knowles as a player is obvious, wonder if any of the other players feel the same way. Must be frustrating as a tall striker when your wing back can’t put a ball anywhere near you
They were not happy with each other today.
Our new signings will curse us again nothing today made me feel wow
I said opportunities not chances. By that I meant we got into some great positions but failed to capitalise. Knowles had at least 3 opportunities in the first 5 minutes of the second half!!!
Sutton are a physical side and dragged us down to their level. Fortunately we won’t be playing many more games against teams in their ‘style’ so not too concerned that we haven’t got the better of them this season (plus probably should have won today anyway, do we not practice crossing and shooting?)
Thing is hutch has got it in his locker to score goals and assists.and be a match winner.
Knowles on the other hand is just a wannabe with no end product and very frustrating
Seems to get frustrated with a lot of our other players too.cant see him staying here to be honest ,first good offer we get will probably take it , don’t see him signing another contract with we .south - east lad isn’t he surprised Gills haven’t been sniffing around .
Want to see the Knowles/hutch chance again looked a lovely move to start with almost like a rugby try the way the ball was passed sidewards on to an oncoming player. Hutch seemed to hesitate to pass to Knowles, possibly because of earlier incidents going wrong? And then the pass was to Knowles was too late and the move fizzled out. That was my take anyway.
It won’t either solid but unspectacular i said it the other day without seeing any of them play a game.
That was more November form than December. Sutton, even with their upturn in form were there for the taking but thr game seemed to pass by too many of our players
Knowles showed exactly why we need another RWB and please can we not start with DJT again
Stirk is a good corner taker.
If fans think we’ll get in the playoffs after that performance are living in cloud cuckoo land.
Very disappointed but not surprised Sutton have become an hard team to beat since the appointment of there new manager.
We just couldn’t find any sort of rhythm to our play some very poor performances today hopefully we improve next match. I thought our CBs all had decent games also thought Jamma was very good. Great build up and finish for our goal.
UTS.
If fans thought we had chance of play offs before that performance they were also in cloud cuckoo land and haven’t really been paying attention for the last six months.
Listening to him then you would have thought we’d just played Stockport instead of a bottom but one team.
I don’t think so no.
For me it’s more attacking. They don’t have to be seen as defenders.
Two players there give you more options to play into midfield from your gk or back 3. If they’re good they either get turned and play forwards or they draw players onto them and you get an “up, back and through” movement that Brighton use.
It also gives Hutch more freedom to go left or right and get closer to the CFs and link the play between midfield and forwards. A role he’s not being allowed to do.
Having two there also gives more licence and freedom to the two WBs to get higher being less exposed behind them.
Look at it this way, with one holding it reduces the attacking output of both CMs and both WBs meaning we have two forwards and 4 midfield players (all on reduced attacking duties) as opposed to two forwards and 3 midfield players - but who are on full attacking duty….
Sadler confirms it was a tactical decision to play Evans.
Poor decision - and a silly comment to say Evans is the best keeper in the division. Bonkers.
My match ratings (always good to start a fresh debate )
Evans 5 - handling was fine but his distribution was as bad as I’ve ever seen, appalling. Should have cost us a goal
Priestley 9- motm for me. Stopped everything and was a beast all afternoon
Daniels 8- just beat by priestley for motm, very good performance and great goal.
Okagbue 7- very much improved and a solid game
Knowles 5 - loads of touches, loads of chances to score and assist but all wasted
Gordon 5- not involved much and pretty tame when he was
Comley 6 – poor first half but good second half
Earing 6- not involved much until late but did show more the last 20 mins. Edges a 6 but lucky to not be a 5
Hutchinson 6- seemed in 2 minds whether to go for goal or pass to the wasteful Knowles too often. Still looked like the spark we needed at times though
Taylor 5- I’m not anti DJT but he was very poor first half. Lack of service granted but he was still poor.
Faal 6- worked hard but looked like someone who needs to get used to the way we play, missed a good chance.
Matt 6- not involved massively but did hold it up well at times
Gordon 7- impressive 25 mins and was a nuisance.
