Darrell Clarke

For all the problems at our own club, getting shot of DC and getting paid for the privilege is a stroke of genius.

I’m quite surprised how quickly the Vale fans have latched on. I thought the " not his team" excuse would last longer ( a fallback he didn’t have at Walsall.), but no , a lot are already seeing through that by looking at what he has done with what he’s got. I think the main difference is that they’re listening to disillusioned WFC fans, whereas we put our faith for a while in Rovers fans most of whom, it’s now clear, would never let his halo slip.

After flicking through a vale forum ( just to cheer me up) they’re sick of him changing the formation every game and picking a different line up every game :joy: he’s picked every player in the squad to start a game from reading the comments ( he thinks he’s pep) :joy::joy:. He honestly makes Jimmy Mullen look like Sir Alex. He’s the worst appointment during my time and we got compo for him it’s quite remarkable. Vale are in **** streak

He’s already shot himself in the foot with that one after his ā€œbetter squad than the one I’ve just leftā€ comment. Truly hilarious stuff and nothing that didn’t happen here and was pointed out at the time.

The irony of that of course is Pep Guardiola has largely kept the same formation and system, not just at Man City but each club he’s managed for over ten years. 4-3-3. Destructive Defensive Midfielder (Busquets, Martinez, Fernandinho). Two creative mids either side, two pacy wingers and a hitman.

Obviously resource levels are different, but I’d suggest if that’s what he thinks he is (and his ego is right up there) he’s got it badly wrong.

It would… even more so as they’d sack him and have to pay off the contract they’ve just given him… on top of the compo they paid us to take him off our hands.

Looking back at the video Pomlett put out the day after Clarke left, I can only assume that when Pomlett said that the conversation with DC got quite emotional that Clarke said he had changed his mind and wanted to stay. I can only imagine at this point Pomlett would have got down on his knees and begged him to go!!!

The fact that we got paid compensation for this muppet is almost bordering on fraud!!! Mind you DC tried to con us for 18 months!!!

Clarke’s win ratio is revealing. He was 53.5% at Salisbury, which really is outstanding, 42.332. % at Rovers and 32.9% with us. 0% at Vale for the moment.

For all his teams, he loses 1 in 3.

Without looking,my guess is the first half of his Rovers spell is close to the one at Salisbury, and the second is much closer to the Walsall one.

Darrell Clarke is by no means our worst manager; considering in my lifetime I can think of 3 worse, then the level of hate the bloke is getting is surprising.

Then you think about the way he conducted himself while he was here and after leaving, and its understandable. There is a life lesson in here - don’t be an arrogant ā– ā– ā– ā–  and don’t insult peoples intelligence :joy:

I think he’d have been given a lot less grief if he had been sacked, rather than leaving us for a ā€œbetterā€ job in the same division.

Some of the ā– ā– ā– ā–  he has come out with after leaving is staggering. He’s in for a rough ride if he returns here (before he is sacked) with Vale - and there are fans in. Fully deserved, too.

Yes, most managers do their best and some are luckier than others. But some humility always helps. Blaming the players is always the resort of a manager who has lost it.

And ,lest we forget ,trying to blame the fans after playing in an empty stadium.

Yes, he was fired after all. For Salisbury it was that ratio over 150+ matches. Incredible.

Salisbury ran up debts they couldn’t pay during his tenure, which might explain some of that ratio.

Did you see JFH’s at Burton Albion (over two spells)?

It is currently 64% win percentage!

That’s ridiculous for a club smaller than Walsall at a level higher up…

When you consider the level of players he’s signed he’s the worst. That being said I’ve been following Walsall since 1996 so I can’t comment before that date. This squad he’s built is without a shadow of doubt the worst during my time. These make Jordan cook look like Messi. Also regarding Clarke he’s managed at a much lower level and his promotions have been much lower level he’s dropped us to that level. Fgs he let joe Edwards go and signed Danny Guthrie and Sinclair that speaks for itself

DC took over after they had been relegated 2 divisions for going bust so he was in a much easier league. That explains a lot.

It is amazing, I agree, but he was below 25% for both QPR and Northampton. Right place, right time I suppose.
