You’re not the only one, Stroud Times:
He does still live in Newport and so does Hatswell
And i have just found out Hatswell played for FGR.
It’s written in the stars for them.
Wasnt that who he played for when he scored that comical own goal?
@SuperGabor described by many as the worst own goal they’ve ever seen
Charlie Ntamark’s howler v West Ham must be a close second?
Older Saddlers will remember a very spectacular own goal by Stan Bennett at the Hawthorns. I think it was 1-1 at the time (Colin Taylor for us, Tony Brown for them) in front of what was then a record gate for the League Cup.
We lost 3-1 in the end but, in the days of unsegregated supporters, it was a great night.
A magnificent start to his managerial career:
20/12/23 - appointed manager of Forest Green Rovers
22/12/23 - FGR 0 - 0 Gillingham
26/12/23 - Newport County 4 - 2 FGR
29/12/23 - Swindon 2 - 1 FGR
29/12/23 - sent off in the above defeat
1/1/24 - FGR 1 - 1 AFC Wimbledon
6/1/24 - Salford 2 - 2 FGR
13/1/24 - FGR 0 - 2 Harrogate
13/1/24 - after the above defeat said there were “too many babies” in his squad, and “The first half was boring and I would have preferred to watch Antiques Roadshow, no offence to anyone who likes Antiques Roadshow.”
16/1/24 - apologies for criticising his players
18/1/24 - given a four-match touchline ban for his sending off against Swindon
18/1/24 - sacked after no wins in 6 with FGR bottom of League Two and seven points from safety
To be fair 3L 3D shouldn’t get you the sack obviously a massive misjudgement by FGR owner regards Deeney as a capable manager
FTFY KingCrod
Pleased to say that in May ‘23, I put Deeney at the bottom of a managerial preference list that saw El Nombre and Gensanx above him in my list of preference……
When you know you know.
We forgive Charlie for anything though…
But didn’t he also say what he said was true during his apology?
That’s right, I watched the Deeney pre match interview before the abandoned game at Mansfield where he said he had apologised to the players for what he said, but his apology was for making his comments in the public domain and that he still stood by what he said regarding the players performances.
It was a half-baked ‘apology’ if I’ve ever seen one.
“I don’t apologise for what I said, I just apologised as it was said in public.”
Poor Phillips
Antiques Roadshow quote made me laugh. The Forest Green squad probably watched his pitiful effort on “celebrity” mastermind over xmas and probably couldn’t take him seriously after that.
How can you score no points on your specialist category?! Seriously it’s like someone off here going on that and having Walsall FC 1970-modern day and not getting a single question right in two minutes.
If he can’t prep properly for that he’s not going to do it preparing squads to win football matches.
Im a bit young to remember that mate
Actually it’s far better.
