Jamie Jellis: Club Statement

In the reports I’ve read on these this is the most common that comes up.

If Jamie was lumping on not getting the ball past the first defender from a corner he could be in big trouble.

Possible then, that it came to light when he started getting mentions in the national media playing for us, and someone realised the name was familiar.

Agreed. BUT its a murky world. Football teams are happy enough to take money from gambling companies that use the sport to attract customers, yet when those customers are players they throw the book at them.

I think the wisest thing is to wait now and not speculate on ifs, buts and maybes.

The club would have known this was on the horizon.
So why play JJ in last nights friendly. There is a huge chance he’s not going to be available for a while so shouldn’t Sadler have given more time to someone who is going to be available!

Jamie Jellis: Walsall midfielder charged by FA over alleged betting offences - BBC Sport

Is this your first time on the internet?

It was rumoured on here a few weeks ago, so undoubtedly they club will have known. However it will take time to sort out - Bowman was charged in October 2024 and his hearing wasn’t until March 2025. Should the club pre-emptively suspend Jellis until it’s completed or wait for the outcome?

If we are paying his wages and the rules allow and we are sure he isn’t currently re offending we should play him in my opinion.

if it is… Go to your Alta Vista homepage - go to ebaumsworld - watch some videos… then go back to altavisa and search for myspace. While doing this go on AOL chat and MSN messenger! Youll have a blast!

does anyone remember a Walsall webiste called “Walsall Wonderland” - it was brillaint. Had a satire bio on the town and a section dedicated to the team. Spent hours on that site.

I hope he gets the help he needs, the amount of bets placed, it sounds like an addiction.

It appears very much like Jamie was placing most of these bets while on loan or in short stints at clubs like Hitchin Town at Step 3 and 4…..whilst against the rules it can be genuine ignorance that he may not have been fully aware…..and whilst ignorance is never a valid excuse it may prove quite compelling mitigation….i hope.

I can tell you now that at that level, whilst against the rules it is rife with players doing their Saturday Accas. Rife.

The problems then arise when I player rises to a higher profile and then suddenly these imbeciles want to take notice and pipe up!

If they want to go by the book I can assure you they could round up 1000 non league players every Saturday….its ok info sharing when it’s high profile but it doesn’t seem so popular to these betting companies when it could hit their monthly numbers….

Oh without question. I’m separating the reality of the clubs situation with Jellis.

Both things are true: There’s a shit ton of hypocrisy in the football league et al handing out punishments for the players using the same companies they actively advertise and take money from themselves, and also, if he’s out for a period of time, in a practical sense, Walsall FC have gone from short to very short in his position.

I’m not sure that is a like for like comparison. Insider dealing isn’t linked to serious addiction and in some cases suicide. You may argue that it’s similar to what gambling is, but you me or anyone else can walk down a high street, or open our phones and bet right now, this minute, as could Jellis. Not many of us have instant access to the means to insider trade. You have to have been actively greedy and abusing your position of power to do that.

And to stretch the analogy further, your company probably isn’t advertising Insider trading to the point of making you wear a source of it on your uniform, then coming down like a ton of bricks when you cave into it.

Oh dear….hopefully Jellis obtains the relevant support

Someone probably offered them decent odds on Jellis having a Ladbrokes account.

I hope the lad gets the support he needs.

It does put us in a very difficult situation, if it’s going to be many months before the process completes during which he is eligible for selection and any potential ban doesn’t actually kick in until (say) February or whatever.

Perhaps not but I’m just trying to make some sense out of it.

We don’t know he has a gambling addiction, these bets may be the only ones he has placed which would look more suspicious than if he is out there banging money on Peruvian dog racing and who is going to toss the caber the furthest in the Highland Games and all other manner of sports.

Either way, he either needs help and support and is likely to receive some form of punishment.

The advertisement of gambling point is valid, and who knows how rife in the top 4 tier’s gambling on football is, maybe there are more to come out the woodwork. I’m not sure how educated footballers are on the rules but to link it back to my analogy, I receive ample training about insider trading to understand the repercussions of doing it. I wonder if footballers get the same.

Is he a victim or just foolish?
