I’m sure it was Ishy who said in an interview in the programme that if he wasn’t a footballer he’d be a gangster.

Yep, not sure where Leyton Orient and Newport are surprised. A few have mentioned they thought they’d leave for a league one club. We are the most league one club of all time. We have more games wins losses and draws in that league than anybody else.
It’s one of the many reasons I hated Darrell Clarke’s “the fans want to be in league one but this is reality” BS for his many failures and a lot of fans, our own and others, brought it and believed it.
These are the types of players we should be aiming for. Might not work, but when you can see a plan, beyond signing ex mates and a few nobodies and hope it “gels” it’s hard not to be more enthusiastic
Orient and Newport both looking down their noses at us is completely laughable
Only a few years ago we were knocking on the door of the championship, and prior to that actually competing in the championship.
Both the stadium and our training facilities are well ahead of most in our league. The only thing the club has lacked is ambition, throw a little cash around and attracting players won’t be hard.
“Hit It!
Nah, na na na nah
Here comes the Matt Sadler, Saddlers
I’m the lyrical gangster, Saddlers
Pick up the crew in-a de area, Saddlers
Still love you like that, Saddlers…”
The first question all new signings are asked is “how delighted are you to be at Walsall “? Not many answers to that question apart from “erm, very”…
The Orient comments made me laugh. Have they forgotten their days in the conference? Typical southern attitudes though.
I know it’s laughable, and as for Newport ffs!!
Yeah a club that can’t even put together a flat pitch by about November. Laughable. The cup runs have inflated their ego
Never understood bringing club stature and ‘history’ into the context of a player leaving one team for another - by that logic, Salford and FGR wouldn’t sign anyone from other league clubs. Loads of different factors - money, geography, relationships with other players/staff…
Only relevant stat is that Newport made the play-off final, Orient finished 11th and we finished 19th - but thankfully it seems we’re selling ourselves as a club that intends on doing much better over the next few seasons.
Especially when you reach league Two. “stature” means even less.
But Walsall fans have been guilty of it too and really its a league where 20 of theclubs genuinely think, they should be in the top 3.
True dat.
Well I think it’s a pride thing isn’t it, if you lose your best player to another club then your going to compare and ask why.
It’s a little like losing your Mrs to another guy.
For me it’s relevant and gives you a feel for what you have to offer.
I get that, I’m still bitter about Wayne Clarke going to Shrewsbury.
We should be acting like a big club in this league, and I don’t mind a bit of bravado.
That’s why I loved it under DD in this league because it felt like we were a big team in this league.
I prefer the Cheltenham approach, just do things properly under the radar and get out of the division.
DC gave all the bravado I can handle for a while.
The away support that season was fantastic. Was brilliant filling away ends every other week.
The whole feel that season was different, we did feel like a big club at this level that would return to league one sharpish.
It didn’t last time we went down, but I don’t think it would take too many wins to get that feeling back…
Definitely, slightest sniff of success and our lot will be all over it. We are due a bit of something I reckon.
I am at a crossroads with getting the kids to fully commit to being life long Walsall fans at the moment. My youngest was just getting into it when it all ended my oldest lad was just starting to drift and not be interested. A good season would help me out a lot ! A promotion could seal the deal, you never forget your first promotion.
Two signings in and I’m already excited and can’t wait to get back into the ground I think I’ll burst after the 4th names announced.
We still had residual extra support from our seasons in the second tier. We could also see that there was enough quality in the ranks to see that despite dropping to the fourth that our stated second tier strategy wasn’t complete spin too. Good side, good manager, strong support loving travelling in numbers. A beautiful journey until…… well we know the rest……and why shouldn’t we?
