L 1-0 vs Charlton Athletic (H) - Carabao Cup R2 - Tue 23rd Aug, 7pm

I commented earlier that I had seen this referee at our reserve games a few years back and I thought he was good. However the decision last night was unbelievable and he should be taken off the league list. The one thing you cannot do as a referee is guess at whether an incident of foul play has occurred . The look on LP’s face at the end of the game makes me hope that our Club will make the strongest possible protest about him. As Flynn said in his interview it might have cost our Club a fortune in money we desperately need.

What a ridiculous assessment. We had the ball in midfield, and the full backs are pushing on for an outlet. He can’t be ion two places at once, constantly marking their man “just in case”.

No. I had a look to make sure he wasn’t flagging for an offside or a push, and the flag was down.

Was good to see you both up there pal.

I agree on it being the best view in the ground and last night, although it was sparsely populated, the atmosphere was alright up there too.

Much better view upstairs. You can see the spaces and angles. Sat downstairs at the Swindon game and all you could see was a forest of bodies and legs.

The general rule is for a defender or defensive player is you don’t gamble until the ball is secure or you have safe possession. We were nowhere near having that with a poor back pass, a hasty clearance (immediately a 50/50) and poor control from a player very likely to show poor control.

Doesn’t sound like a Bennett problem to me.

Partly right , but one of the first things you should learn as a defender is to be aware where your player is even when we are going forward, don’t get too far out of position, basically still be in touch with your opponent even though we are going forward and don’t get caught on the wrong side in case of the turn over which happened last night , obviously as the move progresses it becomes the opponent’s job to mark you.
The poor kick didn’t help or the poor control from Abrahams .
Fine margins , hopefully all part of a young players learning curve.

Bennett was good lots of energy , whether MF will trust him in the league over Whites experience remains to be seen.

Joe was asked by Tom Marlow when he’ll be playing again. He said it took the club quite a while to diagnose his injury and they now know what it is and are currently treating it.
He didn’t give a time frame for his return but hopes it will be sooner rather than later.
I too thought he was very good on the radio last night.

Nope, wholly right. You can’t be constantly in touch with your opponent (and he wasn’t miles away anyway) when pushing forward as a full back, otherwise you are just marking yourself. Your not an outlet for your team mate, who may or may not be struggling with the ball (and you can be that emergency out ball).

The trampoline touch from Abraham, and the defenders passed round like a statue, (instead of covering said full back) are the problem, not the full back pushing on doing his job.

This team won’t move forward unless we start bringing in fresh talent, Bennett and Knowles especially should be starting every game.

Read the post as the move progresses , they have to mark you, but on the initial phase you have to be in position in case of turn over as exactly what happened last night

How bad was that miss from Knowles? It wasn’t like he was rushed into taking the shot!

Yes you are right , but it’s just a question of how MF brings them through, I get the impression that he will try and get them in the 11 but by his nature he will err on the side of caution

Yep I agree, and that falls inline with the above argument.

Where Bennett bombs forward, White probably sits back. I guess it’s a case of how do we want to play? Attack or defend, which gets us further up the table…

The move should have progressed, the ball is played into our player inside their half.

Seeing the disallowed goal back. There is making a dodgy call then there is that decision. A totally made up handball, doesn’t even look like handball. No one appeals, not a single fan or player.

:joy::joy: yep in a game of opinions you are actually wholly right. You win. The end.

Ok no problem ,
The ball is lost , turned over however you want to call it , and we are out of position , it’s not unusual and happens to better teams than us , just have to learn from it .
