L 2-0 vs Mansfield Town (A) - League Two - Sat 15th Jan, 3pm

As I’ve said I don’t think it’s him I think it’s the system he’s having to play in , but can see your point regards resting him although I’m not sure who plays in his place .
Just watch they’ll rest him and then play 2 up front.

Hartlepool, Carlisle, Stevenage, Mansfield I WANT MY MONEY BACK AFTER FALSE PROMISES, TICKETS AND TRAVEL

I’ve been thinking on this point, he scored something like 7 in 9 when he first came in. One thing Taylor has done is stick rigidly to one system, to some frustration when looking to change a game. Therefore what has changed in the system that has resulted in Miller losing that scoring touch?

I can’t speak for away games, but at home he seems to have 2 or more defenders with him every time he gets the ball. Teams know that he needs to be closely marked, we’ve done nothing to counteract that.

The one thing that stood out from the highlights was, I thought, menayese’s shocking defending, both for the second goal and also for the chance before that, where he stands off the attacker, on the edge of the 18 yard box, allowing him to have a shot which was almost a goal. This was the guy we had to sign! I hope he rediscovers his form quickly because, based on the last 2 or 3 games, clough knew what he was doing.

Surely part of it is, as well, that, in playing this system, the “10” and the two wide players have to step up to the mark and support the forward, giving defenders more to think about. Do our players do that? Are they attacking as a cohesive force and supporting each other, or just waiting to see what Miller can do on his own, and feeding off any scraps?

Yes I agree. The answer to the question “what has changed” is “nothing”. Miller wasn’t getting support when he was scoring goals and he’s not getting it now. Hopeful long balls are meat and potatoes to division 4 central defenders. I think Miller does as well as could be expected in the role he’s asked to play, with minimal support.

You don’t go from scoring 7 in 9 to not scoring in 14 without something changing.

He had a good run, but opponents noticed and worked out how to stop him. If you take him out of the game by double marking him, we have no plan b.

Another good away day with my Son and good friends slightly tainted but not ruined by the 90 minutes. Another new ground for my lad, and a little bit more disappointment to the collection for him, he is getting quite used to it now it will serve him well I guess.

We had a decent start to the second half I thought, and then Miller missed his chance, the next thing we are a goal down and I never thought the outcome would be anything but a loss from then on in.

I think the song “we’re s*** and we’re sick of it” sums things up well. That was a great following today considering what we are watching every week. A fanbase so desperate for some kind of success or even a hint that there may be better times ahead, but as hard as we try there doesn’t appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel.

What started the fans fighting ?

I didn’t really see mate. Seemed to be a few fans down the front having some words with stewards. I think a few got escorted out, but I don’t really know any more than that. Just frustration I think more than anything else.

It’s modern day footballers for you at a higher level it’s happening at Manchester United over paid players who don’t really have discipline or respect for the manager lack of professionalism and lack of running it’s happening more and more often. The players these days are cheating gits always pinching 10 yards always moaning at the referee always rolling around after the slightest touch trying to get the opposition carded or sent off. I personally feel they need to be knocked down a peg or two and learn to listen and respect a clubs shirt and badge and fans of the club they are working for.

Disappointed, we were clueless!
Our tactics were hit it long for Miller to chase, win the ball, take on the defence and have a shot.
Osadebe tried to support him and create something, but Shade, Kiernan, Philips, Wilkinson, Earing and Labadie did very little. We might as well have played 8-1-1.
Why do we bother with wingers when they only ever get the ball with their back to goal?
The formation 4-2-3-1 isn’t working. We are creating nothing.
The opposition create chances from set pieces - we create nothing.
The opposition attack us at pace - we are pedestrian.
The opposition always seem to have space and time - we pass to players who are being marked.
Today, Clough changed tactics at half time and won the game. We changed to 4-4-2 after 85 minutes by bringing on a rookie.

Yes, we are better than 12 months ago and possibly better than 2 years ago, but we are, at best a mid table league 2 team.
We are a team in transition with an apprentice manager learning his trade, but so are Swindon (and Forest Green?). But this season we have not made the progress I’d expected.

Either the players aren’t good enough or the coaching isn’t good enough.

To start with, we need a 2 new defenders, a creative midfield player, a change of formation and a new striker. If not, it will be a long season with diminishing crowds.

We were 13th after 24 games last season and 17th the season before that, I’m not convinced that is better unfortunately, and worryingly slipping into becoming a below mid table team at best.

You know what, i am not bothered anymore, the club that i loved back in the 70’s up until a few years ago are NOTHING like anymore, i can’t even remember the last game i went to? and i have spent thousands following them over the years.
In the current climate, with the current owners i can honestly say i will not be attending any time soon .i just can not relate to the current set up.
No one can take the years of memories away from me, i have seen and done some amazing things, some good and some bad.
But for me the good times and good feelings are far outweighed by the shite that we are supposed to put up with now.

Just look at the state of our attacking options yesterday .

Miller (loan) - hard working but has been found out, get close to him and it’s game over.

Kiernan - he’s non league, no pace no quality.

Shade (loan) - GET RID , lazy!

Phillips (loan) - Just not good enough

Wilkinson - completely disinterested!

What a complete shambles Mr Pomlett & Co!
