L 2-0 vs Stockport County (H) - League Two - Thur 29th Dec, 7:45pm

Could other results have gone any worse for us with our defeat tonight :see_no_evil:

For free?

I think we are seeing what a promotion chasing defence, midfield, forward line and setup look like.

We aren’t a million miles away, and we don’t need to overreact- but we certainly need to strengthen - if we have any designs on the top 7. We don’t need 11 new players, but 3/4 to complete at that top end of L2 level.

That said, they were literally better than us in every single position (tonight). Their number 6 at the back - makes Monthe and Daniels look like carthorses. Their midfielders actually pass, and their forwards were pushing us back and with some quality. Our midfield was shocking tonight.

The type of football they’ve played has been expansive and positive - and with decent quality. I can see these going up if they play like this every week.

We’ve been absolutely battered there. Maybe it’s a one off? But we’ve seen this type of performance before.

Flynn has to be ruthless and get rid of the likes of Williams, Cashman, DJT - and get proper players in. The midfield - I am now convinced after tonight - need’s strengthening. We need another 2 strikers - a right wing back (depending on Bennett), and another centre half.

No chance otherwise.

What’s with the convoy of police heading to the ground and another police vehicle with a drone?

Anyone have any idea what was going on with the pitch invader?

Someone worked out we could have gone 4th!!

The only bright spot was Barrow losing at home to Tranmere Rovers…

Hayden White booked, 89 min (our 3rd yellow of the night)

Barrow losing is good news surely, they’ve been massively overachieving and would be amazed if they finished top 7.

Last line should just read ā€˜No chance’.

A reality check.

Barely created a decent chance all night and Flynn made some odd moves second half in terms of positions players were asked to play.

All about the response now about another well drilled and in form team. Can’t say I liked much what I saw in final third without DJ so that warning needs to be heeded.

Left early that was as poor as I’ve seen us.They came and dominated from the word go and we’ve had no answers.I said this would be a good barometer well we look miles away from this lot.

Outplayed. Stockport deserved that. It’s so easy to get carried away with our prospects because we all so want to get out of this rubbish division

Poor result. I hope it won’t be a recurring event, but some new impulses in the squad are needed. If not, a boring fight in the middle of a table awaits.

We are all disappointed. But mostly your comments are really poor . Let’s see what boycott does now in the window after such a good run of form before we give to much criticism out

Stockport were one of the better sides we have seen this year and they caught us on a bad day. Manny was to blame for the first goal and we never recovered from the second.

Let’s not get despondent about one defeat. We played poorly but that does not mean that is the level of the team any more than winning at Swindon means we will finish above them.

The ref did nothing seriously wrong but he did give some very peculiar decisions.

I fancy us in the Cup match.

They were better all over the pitch. Most thought that these would be up there this season, and they will most likely be. The league is much stronger than a lot of people think it is, so no point being disheartened with our run coming to an end.
Big game at the weekend against another decent side.

Beaten by a better side, but it could’ve been very different had Knowles taken one of the 2 or 3 chances he had.

We are still not clinical enough in front of goal and tonight we paid for that. Couple of canny signings needed I think - need to move Williams on as I can’t see what he offers, and we really need some more quality in midfield (their no 21 Hippolyte ran rings round Kins tonight), so that probably means moving on one of the multitude of centre mids we have.

Some heavy legs also tonight so let’s hope Flynn changes it up for the Mansfield game.

Full debrief tomorrow but bitterly dissapointing especially when you tak friends to the game who aren’t Saddlers and we play so poorly. Hats off to Stockport though, they were a class act and just had too much for us. On the night the great Pele died it puts a football result as dissapointing as it was into perspective.
