Didn’t want my post above to criticise Knowles who I thought ran his socks off tonight, he was everywhere.
Unfortunately our best chances fell to him tonight and he just wasn’t at it

That was White mate.
Of course! Of course it wasn’t White ![]()

Completely outplayed by the best side down here for a long time, disappointing ![]()
Just about filled the away end.
Fair result. Just beaten by the better side tonight. They did a real good job of nullifying us. Most teams have a couple of errors in then in a game at this level, they didn’t put a foot wrong of any consequence tonight.
There delivery into the box was better quality than ours. If they consistently put in performances like that I wouldn’t be suptised to see them fighting for that 3rd automatic spot come the end of the season and the likes of Mansfield being in play-offs and Swindon droppibg just outside them as Stockport are better than both those teams.
For us it is all about how we respond to that set back and about putting together another run. We have the capability of making the play-offs at least ourselves if we do.
Apologies. It was White and it was a bad error.
First goal was always going to be critical in this game.
They could have had a few goals both before and after they scored Locky. We were simply not good enough. Stockport were a far superior outfit.
Also couldnt understand why Flynn’s tactics appeared to be to welly the ball in the general direction of White and then give Stockport the freedom of the pitch to play football. Strange !!!
Yep on another night could have been 3 or 4 if it wasn’t for Evo.
Not at all despondent as many.
We’ve got several players still learning their trade at this level, which is fine.
As for the being battered mantra, why does everything have to be so hit or miss? We lost to an expensively assembled, experienced team that is bang in form…and it was 2-0, and we had chances that could have changed the momentum of the game. In every season I’ve ever watched us win promotion from this level (which is all bar one in our history) there have been several games likes this per season, and you can include the 1-0 away battering at Stockport in that number under Dosh.
Seen it all before. This team is already a steady improvement on the last few seasons, it should finish top half, and might sneak into the play-offs. Would take a hugely positive January to make it a play-off likely/auto challenging outcome, but with new owners who knows if that isn’t a possibility? Far more likely is just build momentum in a see where it takes us manner with promotion an absolute stated aim benchmark next term.
That would be a fair assessment of new owners that have spent this season completing their takeover, and a manager that took over a team plummeting towards non-league less than a year ago, it would also incredibly fit Pomlett’s five year plan ![]()
I’m trying not to be that despondent - I think it’s more reaffirming the suspicion that we absolutely need to strengthen in key areas.
Agreed. Should rename it in the history books. Owen evans v Stockport County
Because without him…
Flynn on WM saying that Bennett may have played his last game for us, shame ![]()
Pretty much made all the points I was going to make. Including games like this where all our hopes are high and we have a crash back down to earth. Chesterfield in the Nicholl promotion season sprung straight to my mind, I remember being so gutted that day. Lincoln came to Bescot and turned us over under Dosh etc. We haven’t lost since October, you don’t do that by being an awful team. Not saying we are good enough to go up, but no need to jump off a cliff just yet.
I think it’s important we retain a degree of objectivity.
Tonight they were miles better than us. Sharper, better prepared, harder working, better game plan and technically miles ahead. Most importantly they showed more bravery in possession and much more desire.
That doesn’t change anything we’ve achieved so far this season. It doesn’t change the improvements made just that more are required. It doesn’t make us a bad side or with bad players, anymore than recent results made us promotion certs or worldbeaters.
Tonight, one or two apart, we were very poor to a man. It would unfair to single out individuals and no-one was much worse than anyone else. For me it confirmed one or two things I already knew and could, if it happened again too often would make me question one or two other things I thought I knew. But until then it’s just a bad night at work.
We need to go away, get back to work and look to improve again.
Some trouble pre-match, concerns that it could kick off after.
Drone is cheaper than the helicopter!!!
I don’t think anyone is (can only speak for myself and what I’ve seen here) mate.
I think it’s just considering what the difference between top half/top ten and the promotion places is.
I don’t think we are awful - far from it - we are ‘good’ - probably 10-12th at the moment.
I just think if we want to push on then we need definitely two Centre forwards in (and Williams/DJT out). I can’t see where the goals are coming otherwise - especially from the bench. We absolutely need a target man striker - they had one today and made a massive difference.
I think we need a real tall dominant midfielder for occasions like today as well - our midfield was very average. For some reason Kinsella reverted to that sort of advanced right/central midfield role which we know doesn’t suit him - Earring was marking their number 14 (I think) and Hutch was lost.
I think we need a wing back for the Bennett situation - and definitely another centre half.
I think that’s the difference between us flirting with the top 7/10 - and being in the top 7. Personally, of course.
It is a first loss in some time and we may go on and win the next few but my own personal opinion is that this game was a good marker as to where we actually are and we fell way short. The thing Stockport have is a team that has more players than we do at changing games. If Madden and Collar have an off day Wooton shows up.If Wooton and Madden have an off day Collar turns up and so on and so on.I’m not standing here saying we haven’t been on an exceptional run or that this team isn’t better than last seasons because that would be lying but what I am saying is until we have players that can take the load and perform when others don’t we won’t be going anywhere that’s just the facts. We have DJ this year and pretty much no one else that can turn up if he doesn’t and he isn’t even ours so until this changes I honestly can’t see us getting out of this league. They came here tonight played two up top and outfought us hussled us created more scored more in fact if you didn’t know it was two of the best form teams in the league playing you’d have thought we were bottom two that’s just the truth of the matter. We will win more games along the way and it is one defeat since October but for me that tonight has shown me we are way off.So get ready for Mansfield because they won’t be coming to have their bellies tickled either.
Bit of a reality check tonight but still feeling positive.
Hands up as we were beaten by the better team.
Nobody other than Evans had a good game and he deservedly got MOTM.
A win against Mansfield and everything will be back on track.
I don’t fancy our chances in the cup though.
