Very surprised at calls for change tonight after 4 games, all but 4 wins and all but 370 mins without conceding a goal!
I get that at some point players will need resting / rotating but I wouldn’t just yet.
Although I agree with others who point out saturday wasn’t the best performance for Hutchinson or Allen, I think we are being harsh given the heat and the type of opposition to have expected our more creative players to have stood out.
In those games it’s very rare for moments of brilliance and much more about doggedness and grittiness.
I think I’d go unchanged.
If I’m being brutally honest I’ve seen nothing from Knowles yet to suggest he’s a starter and most definitely not through the middle where he doesn’t look to have to composure or quality on the ball as others. Earing has quality but hasn’t done enough to warrant replacing anyone and I don’t think we’ll see RAM start a game until Papa Johns time.
They’re not calls for permanent change, the 11 that played Saturday is still first choice.
But they were visibly tired on Saturday, and you’d think a midweek game straight after will be a bridge too far for some.
You make the point about heat on Saturday and poor performances from our creative players. One of those is Hutchinson, and he looked shot at Swindon the game before, never mind playing most of Saturday.
Welcome to the forum @CompletelySaddled
Straight into the thick of it I see, hopefully @el_nombre will go easy
My post was meant to be read in a welcoming, conversational way
He played a completely different role v Swindon and was much much deeper sitting alongside Earing in front of the back 4.
Saturday he was poor but I just feel he struggled to get on the ball due to the ping pong nature of the game - we were as guilty as Stevenage were - rather than anything else. For me the Comley, Kinsella, Hutchinson combo stays for now. They’ve been as instrumental as the back 3 have.
I’ve been here before but lost all my log in details
Long term sure, but he’s definitely looked leggy too. He’s no the only one.
Williams looked like he was going to pass out in that game, as did Hayden White.
I do agree about those two in particular.
Williams looked longingly at the bench quite a few times in the 2nd half.
Well it has been a long hard season…
Didn’t know it was impossible to get tired in August
There is of course always a shout for pre-emptive strikes and rotating before players get exhausted or injured rather than flogging them until they are.
It is for a professional sportsman who (like 40yr old Clarke last season) is expected to play 40+ league games and not need a rest after 3 games.
Peter Clarke who was rested last Tuesday? Great example
But either way you’re clearly talking bobbins (again). Tiredness is an accumulation of matches in quick succession, not playing all season long. If it was Saturday - Saturday you probably could play every single league and cup game. But it’s not, this is our 5th game in 17 days. two of which were in blistering heat. But if you won’t take my word for it:
The argument for resting is far more pertinent if it were a cup game next, or indeed if anyone had really made a case for ousting someone.
As I’ve said I’m not convinced Knowles has, I think Earing has a case and I don’t think RAM will get a league start until after Papa John games.
Doesn’t come into it at all. It’s about looking at previous performances purely in terms of output, and judging work load.
Of course it comes into it, but by quoting half a sentence you’ve offered no context at all.
First and foremost we’d all pick our strongest team yes? Of course we’ll all disagree on that but in essence yes?
If you want to rest key players you first look for games that are appropriate to miss….cup games, away games, weaker opposition, games not suited?
If the timing isn’t right for the above you look at how essential the rest may be. The player GPS will tell you this from matches and training and the risk of injury will be assessed and weighed up.
Failing all of the above you will also consider how weakened you may be, whether it’s a game worth the risk, or whether the player you’re bringing in has even been knocking on the door.
Context is everything.
Torrential rain up in Barrow they think its possible it could be off if it carries on.
It was bouncing off the floor a few minutes ago but seems to.have eased off now.
No. That’s literally the argument. Because you can’t just stick your strongest 11 out every single game can you? Literally isn’t a club in the world that does that, and yes, even in league games.
Yes if you’re playing FIFA. No if you’re actually managing a real football team.
And that’s why I didn’t take you out of context
