L 2-1 vs Doncaster Rovers (A) - League Two - Tue 9th April, 7:45pm

I do think that is a valid point, if he was playing alongside another striker banging a goal in every game or two on average it wouldn’t be noticed. Therein lies the problem in that he isn’t and therefore the scoring element, or lack of it, is even more exacerbated.

Understand what you are saying but I definitely would not sign him up for the simple fact that I think we could get a better player who has a goal threat

I saw a league table for the last 20 the other day and Doncaster were top and they just beat us.

It has been a better second half of the season though, no question.

Eyes down for a full house… and we’re off and running. Took a good hour and a bit since the final whistle went but we got there.

Not a peep all game. Come to mention it. Nothing on Saturday either.

I don’t disagree that we could do better, but he plays a key role. I’d have him all day long at the minute over DJ who again tonight contributed bugga all, as he has for the majority of the season.
He suits Sadlers game plan but I’m sure there’s better out there if we can afford them

You could be right…I took my lead from the Manager but whether we are top or second that is a vast improvement on what has gone before in the past few years.

Agreed. He does all of that.
Goals win games though and I’d prefer our midfield to be doing those things in order to set up a lazy striker who knows where the back of the net is .
If only we had such a person in our squad.

Can I ask @Belphegor - why did Sadler sign DJ if he’s the opposite of how he wanted to play?

And on DJ… how can any player, in any position be expected to contribute when you’re frozen out for months, and only get 15/20 mins in games every so often?

I find it all quite bizarre - and something Sadler needs to sort out in the summer.

But you aren’t the manager, and Sadler thinks differently, which is what matters. The evidence suggests he is doing OK

Too much information

Doing OK?
Yup agree it’s pretty average.

Going up through the play offs would be one of the best achievements in recent history.

I’d take one season of being back in league one instead of having another season in this league with no guarantees of success next season.

I’m puzzled by that Thanny. When I see DJ chasing shadows, I do wonder what the hell we signed him, given the way Sadler sets out his stall. DJ needs to play in a different team. Tonight he had over half an hour and was completely anonymous and off the pace. That’s not a criticism of him, it’s just an observation that he doesn’t fit this style of play.

Best we’ve done for 6 years, and he’s in his first season. Good stuff in my book

Hello Belg, how you doing mate?

If you go through these threads you’ll see most people should be happy with our season. Or at least they would be if they didn’t change their minds once we start doing a bit better

I wouldn’t. To go up via the play offs and then have a Carlisle like season would be horrendous and something the club may not recover from.

We will go up at some point I think but not with this bunch of players. 2 many are not good enough

Thought Sadler very down tonight in interview knows that was big opportunity missed and it’s realistically over .

Only watched on ifollow this evening but still feel massively disappointed. Probably more so than MK.

Be interesting to hear from the good folk that went tonight.

Or we could go up in the play offs and have a couple of seasons back at League 1 level, like Port Vale have.

Or doesn’t that fit your narrative?
