L 2-1 vs Mansfield Town (A) - League Two - Sat 28th Oct, 3pm

I think Im one of the more optimistic posters on here, but I will say I get fed up with our crossing. It seems to be systematically poor and disappointing

Yeah I’m probably giving more credit than is due

He annoys me now tbh.

Same here, but not as annoying as his song, I find that really cringeworthy! :see_no_evil:

It has me for a while…singing it when he won a throw in for most of last season!

With regards to possession stats and controlling games I do not believe we are set up to play that way.

I think Sadlers approach is to try and press teams high, chase the opposition around and nick the ball off them and then try and make quick attacks.

It could also explain why we are so poor against ā€œlump itā€ teams like Sutton as they dont play the ball around nicely for us to chase them.

If the team were coached to control possession we would see that on the pitch surely (either good or bad).

As such, whilst we are coached to play this way then i wouldnt expect the possession stats to increase much.

Just speaking as i see it. In the games i have been to i have mostly seen lots of effort (chasing and breaking) but not much game control.

Read my post again ffs on about selling out there

How did DJ get on today, did he need Matt in support from the start. The commentary said he applied himself but the game was calling out for more strength up top.

They were quite complimentary of Dave in CB, how was he and could he be a good effective partner to DD?

Was it a case of Mansfield just having better quality or were they lucky to win.

Have to disagree with that, i truly feel there is room for coaching and mentoring and 25yo is not too old to improve. Perhaps we as a club lack the skills to gain the most potential out of him. Perhaps that reflects more on the coaching staff and lack of development culture at the club than on the players.

Not saying he DOES have potential to improve but he has attributes which are solid and if he could cut out his poor aspects of his game then he could be a good league two player.

You already highlighted one simple fix.

That could be right, but on the other hand, perhaps we don’t have much possession because a lot of players lack technical ability and are not very good at passing and controlling the ball.

I think that this season we are above our recent average in one, very important, area of the game - taking chances. I think that we are worse than usual in defending, in midfield and in creating chances.

We are just levels off the likes of Mansfield, they’ve clearly got ambition as a club and knock the door season after season of late. Should’ve been well out of sight before we scored.

I don’t know if we are overrating certain players in this squad or they’re being grossly mismanaged or a bit of both.

How long until the all important, new and improved saddlers club is complete anyway?:rofl:

Yawn yawn fkin yawn same old boring walsall season after season

I would agree with that Bernie.

Think it was when he was at Yeovil that Plymouth looked at him and were interested in him .we beat them signing him .maybe now he’s performed at this level and seen him don’t think they would be that keen .probably only the usual fan gossip linking him at the start of season to them .based on previous interest.

Maybe……I agree that he could make himself more effective for sure….

I just don’t feel that the parts of his game that are missing will improve much….

I have a saying where I always think you can’t put in what god left out….basically referring to a heart and a brain….he has a heart but….

That very much sums up my thoughts

Why does MS struggle to swallow when talking about our play … :man_shrugging:

Why can’t he stand still instead of rocking left and right … :man_shrugging:

Because he’s cluching at straws maybe … :man_shrugging:

So desparately want him to work out for us but …

When he says ā€œlarge parts of the gameā€ it usually means around 20 minutes.

We said the same about Wes McDonald and he was younger than Knowles.

Fact is they both had great pace, an ability to run down blind alleys and shocking end product.
