L 3-1 vs Notts County (H) - League Two - Sat 13th April, 3pm

But you don’t play an average do you? :joy: the point was he’s been abysmal off the bench, I asked how that’s possible when you’re only getting five minutes off the bench.

Think you’ll find there is about 7 mins difference in them.

DJ has played 25 games amassing 1180 minutes, averaging 47 mins.

DJT has played 30 games amassing 1193 minutes, averaging 40 mins.

DJ has 5 goals compared to 3 from DJT.

Was in the away end with a couple of Notts supporting mates.

First of all how any Walsall player can try and knock our fans is absolutely beyond me. I have been critical of the atmosphere over the years but I thought the support yesterday was terrific, loud and positive, even at 0-2 down. If you are so sensitive that you are going to take a few comments and have a pop at the whole fanbase after support like that then maybe being a footballer isn’t for you.

Secondly, we desperately lack quality upfront. There was enough chances in that game for us. Notts were clinical. Langstaff would have bagged a hatrick for us yesterday. Sadler has made a rod for his own back with DJ. If we dont get at least 2 solid, talented, proven strikers at this level in preseason then we aint going nowhere.

I must be missing something here. That implies DJ has played half a match each game this season. That’s never right surely. I mean he was out injured for two months and never seems to play since .

It’s only based on the games they were in the squad for.

That’s just selective to suit an argument.

DJ looked ok in the opening games scoring in two of them.

However he was non existent and way off the pace v Wrexham, was ok at Crewe but had just 13 touches and completed just 4 passes (although he did have 4 shots).

He was really poor v Grimsby at home where he started again, was unfortunate v Swindon where he came on when Knowles was sent off but was awful v AFC Wim at home and was dragged at half time and was even worse away Sutton where he missed a really good chance at 1-0 that I’d expect DJ to have scored from.

I make that 7 starts from the opening 8 league games where we won just 1 game and lost 4 of them and he scored 2 in 8 games.

He was on the bench for the next 2 games - both draws - where he scored the equaliser v Crawley which earned him another start v Mansfield where he was again dreadful.

Thats now 8 starts in 11 games where we won 1 of them. In the 3 sub appearances he played over 20 mins in each of them.

He was a sub appearance in the next 2 games before earning a recall v Barrow……where he was again really poor and was hooked after 56 mins!

He was sub again the following game in a zero impact loss to Crewe, but then came on early v Grimsby looked lively and scored the last of the 6 goals.

He then played a full game v Southampton on a game that was difficult for everyone but a loss and a very poor performance nonetheless.

However he started the following game was really poor away at Stockport and was hooked on the hour.

At this point I now make it that he’s started 10 league games out of 17 as well as an hour v Grimsby as a sub. In the other 6 sub appearances he played between 20-30 mins in 5 of them.

In those 10 starts we won 1 of them.

His last start was the 3-1 loss at Stockport and since then he’s been injured and missed 9 weeks of football was unused v Barrow and Colchester and apparently not fit and wasn’t used in the 3-1 win Tranmere and just 5 mins in the 2-1 win v Salford.

He got another 25 mins v Doncaster when we needed a goal and he touched the ball……THREE TIMES!!!

Lets put this “he hasn’t had a chance” myth to bed shall me?

I was purely looking at L2 stats but all comps you are indeed correct

Another incorrect perception.

DJ has come off the bench 10 times in the league and just one of them has been 5 mins (2-1 win v Salford)

In the other 9 appearances off the bench he’s played 57 mins in one of them (Grimsby), played 20-30 mins in 7 of them and 15 in the other one.

Imagine including that :joy: but I’m being selective.

I mean, you can say he was “really poor” with no actual evidence or examples of why he was all you like beyond Matt Sadlers substitutions (lol) deciding to “hook” him, but I’ve never seen him be “really poor” and I’ve also seen all of our other strikers be “really poor” at times too.

It was a figure of speech but if we’re going to be that literal, that’s still not a given to have an impact, bar Grimsby.

That’s the best you can pick on from that?

:rofl::rofl:

The best? I answered both in one :joy::joy::joy:

I’ll take that as you have no answer for it :+1:t3:

Ok :+1:

I just gave examples of 22 games and you picked on me including Southampton (even though I made reference to it being a difficult one to judge) and the fact that him being substituted isn’t evidence of him being poor.

My post was in reference to him not having had a chance (poor guy) and the statement you made about him only ever getting 5 mins when used as a sub.

Stick to topic fella.

Faal has been subbed on 11 times averaging 27 minutes a sub appearance - scoring in 4 of them. More than enough time to make an impact.

His four goals came when he played 26 minutes, 36 minutes, 25 minutes and 45 minutes.

:joy::joy::joy: I answered completely about the topic, you’re just upset that I’m not taking Matt Sadlers substitutions as evidence he was “really poor” or indeed your word for it, especially as I watched a lot of those games and disagree :man_shrugging:

Yeah, he’s done really well off the bench. In fact I said earlier:

Struggling to see your point? Personally I think Faal should be a nailed on starter and I think it’s ridiculous he comes off the bench every game :+1:t3:

A somewhat muted debrief today. There were some grave concerns amongst our panel for Captain Fantastic DD, he was again somewhat short of his imperious best and looks like he needs the summer break to get himself fit and refreshed. Almost unanimous agreement in player of the match for Liam Gordon, he was quite superb. On another day we could have easily scored 3 ourselves, finishing was rather slapdash. Questions again about conceding first even though Sadler states ‘its not like us’ it very much is and something which needs to be addressed over the pre season if we want to mount a serious challenge next year. We were all dumbfounded at the booing and sarcastic jeering at certain points even if this only comes from a dumb minority of the spectators.

fun fact then
Dj has still scored more or similar to Matt , Gordon and djt this season …
Even being mainly unused or short substitute stints
If dj played as much as Gordon since January we’d have already 4 goals more

You haven’t managed to address the post you’re actually replying to….again….

Which was :-

  1. DJ hasn’t had a fair chance

Address the games I’ve demonstrated and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Your comment that he was only getting 5 mins each sub appearance which was proved to be absolute nonsense….

You palmed off as being “figure of speech”

Thing is, you won’t accept statistical evidence and you won’t accept the fact he kept getting taken off when he was rubbish….

You’ve ignored the fact that we only won one game in which he started and you’ve ignored the fact that despite similar minutes from the bench Faal has proved far more effective from it when DJ hasnt had enough time to make an impact.

You’ve used average minutes and then debunked how useless a piece of information that is when a defender who’s played one game had a better rate and you tried to demonstrate why you thought someone had played well by saying he was MoM (sponsors) and then accepted how useless of a gauge that is when someone won it who you thought was rubbish….

We have nowhere to go pal.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I did though … again, you just don’t like it. It’s why you’re blocked in the first place, it’s not worth the conversation, because you don’t actually take in or respond to what anyone says and just spit out a whole new bunch of rhetoric.

“Statistical evidence?” I’m the only one that’s offered a stat! Goals per minutes :joy:

And in that spirit, I’ve said everything I have to contribute on the point
