L 3-1 vs Stockport County (A) - League Two - Sat 13th Jan, 3pm

We need to stop starting every season 2/3 players short!

That I will agree with.

Should be looking for top 3 next season in my opinion.

I’m optimistic for next season and to be fair it’s the first time in a long while I’ve said that

Well we have beaten Stockport, Wrexham, Notts County and Crewe!! Not a bad record but we are paying for being very inconsistent over the first half of the season. 4 of the next 5 at home . These games hold the key to our season in my view. Win most of those and we have a chance of making the play offs .Up the saddlers.

I agree. We are tying down our better players and with some careful recruitment in Jan and the summer we should have a strong squad that has been together for a while. I am hoping that we can finally be a force in this division. Plus I do not think any of the likely relegation candidates from L1 are going to be that strong.

That’s the Artell effect…but scored 5 today so not all bad but Notts will be all at sea after recent goings on…

We have but we are paying for our poor form earlier on promotion is won over a season not 3 or 4 games where we look good I’m not going to be too negative about today or last week we have come up against much better sides than us unfortunately.

Hmmmm.

We have had a good run, so I am going to temper myself given the recent form and oppostion…

However…, that was more Accrington than Grimsby. Quite the reality check I think.

I didn’t like how passive we were. We were second best all over the pitch. It was more scared of the opposition, rather than the brave performances we have seen recently.

We didn’t look like a team who will get into the top 7 today.

That strike partnership was terrible. That won’t work - it won’t work with Gordon and/or another either. Another striker needed. DJ was anonymous and DJT completely ineffective. The style of football doesn’t suit them at all.

Daniels was clearly told not to push into midfield today - bad call. He was also awful.

We have no replacements for Earing and Hutch if they go off. We actually went more defensive with Stirk on for Earing. An 8/10 is desperately needed.

Gordon was really poor today. Taylor Allen is even worse.

Knowles is absolutely dreadful.

Hnmmm. But aside from that… we have the perfect chance now with 3/4 games at home. I’ll give us the benefit of doubt after that today - time for Sadler to put us back on track.

I do think we need some proper investment in this January window for the squad to be effective. All going well - our first 11 is very good when we want to be brave. However… the changes and depth of the squad in key positions is really obvious and lacking.

A disappointing passive perfomance.

Wrexham and Stockport getting out of this division is good for the rest of us.

I got more annoyed as I started writing :joy:

We won’t win them all
But games like this when we play poor and then results like accy show we aren’t consistent enough to be challenging towards the top
There’s potential here and we can beat anyone on our day. But to be a play off team we need to get results when playing poor and beat the teams you expect to
The performance more than the result today shows we just aren’t quite there yet

Yep, a good point that is.

Didn’t Stockport win something like 13 on the bounce? You can afford a bit of a blip if you do that. I’m fairly confident they will stroll over the line. If by some chance they didn’t, they will be back even stronger next season.

No complaints with that result. We were in it for an hour but the longer it went on the more it looked like a loss was inevitable.
Contrary to some other views, I thought that Knowles had one of his better games today.
