Shame we failed to sign any wingers. don’t worry though, we signed 5 strikers to end up playing with one up front.
He did ok for a first game back. Pity Earing wasn’t quite ready but in Maher and Thomas we have some talent coming through. Foulkes also played well tonight. Our future lies with these young lads and I hope the fans will help them through difficult times.
I said to my lad, ‘he’ll just whip this into the keepers hands’. So predictable.
I’ll try and do this in one liners to avoid boring people with detail…
Smith….I think we now know that Evans is the no 1 for a reason
Foulkes….I like him. I thought he did well Saturday…but tonight he was too busy trying to be better than he is.
Dave….ok
Rollin….great to see him back. He was very rusty but that is exactly what this type of game should be for and he did ok in parts. He’ll be delighted.
Allen……hmmmmm……
RAM……better second half but looks like he was still playing for Rushall and didn’t have the time he wanted on the ball. Still quite frail but that’s natural and not a problem.
Harvey….did ok with the ball but looks a little pedestrian to me…I think he has more gears.
McEntee……did what he does…I do t think he’d change his game if he played Real Madrid or Sheppey
Hutch….got a bit complacent at times which led to a few sloppy moments but was our best player and played at a canter
Knowles….I’m changing my opinion on him……he’s worse than I thought.
DJ……good minutes and good to get the net bulging early on. But (through no fault of his own) he’s miles of match sharpness and it showed. Good game for him to get minutes but if he’d squared to hutch early on we win the game…and one or two chances were bread and butter….up there with the DJT performance at Sheppey so credit where credits due he was a threat goal scoring wise but that’s all….his all round game was non existent.
DJT……really poor when he came on. I’m not gonna defend it by saying it’s hard to come on as a sub!! The only thing I would say is we ended up with a front two that neither had any interest in helping the other!
It was a nothing game but I was impressed by the way different players came on but the engine kept ticking. Losing Stirk was a huge blow - I hope it was precautionary because we cannot afford to lose another first teamer.
The defence wasn’t as bad as it could have been given not one of the 4 would be in the first choice team. The free kick was needlessly conceded by Knowles and had little to do with the defence anyway, though the third was poor.
Upfront, we really did miss chance after chance and for the second match in this competition in a row, we missed a penalty. As others have said, Johnson could have had 5 and should have had 3. I guess he is just a bit rusty and he did get into the positions.
Griffiths did much better when he came on than the last game, Maher played with some confidence and Foulkes looked good.
It was a quite entertaining game but, if Stirk is out for a while, it was a bad night
Forgot to mention Dylan Thomas…I earmarked him early this year. I like him. Came on and moved the ball really well and really economically…opposite to RAM and he looked the better player of the two because of it.
Why play Stirk tonight if Tierney is injured? Sadler could have played one of the kids in a dead rubber, no need whatsoever to play Stirk and now he’s out injured. Well done Sadler
Surprising that a left footed player provided width and a threat when playing on the left.
Hutchison far more dominant when moved central.
With the players available we were better suited to 3 at the back and 2 upfront.
Imagine if DJ had been playing regularly, he’d have scored 3 or 4 tonight.
I think Stirk played to fill the quota and came off with a pre arranged “injury”……I hope
Maybe he’s not been playing regularly because that’s how he’s been at training all week for a few weeks……just a thought….
From what ive seen Thomas is a strong, tidy and tenacious midfielder and only 16.
Finally we have some youth players worthy of first team in Thomas ,Foulkes and Maher
Agreed and it’s a sign that improvements are being made that at the moment aren’t always visible on a Saturday.
Whatever his faults you can’t blame Sadler for Stirk getting injured whilst playing a game of football.
I’m old enough to remember the days when we would play the same 11 week after week on terrible pitches and get no injuries.
Some of the challenges were verging on assault and the training ground facilities were shocking.
Have to admit though that I did hope some of them would get long term injuries.
Little harsh that he had to fill the quota.just unlucky if he is injured.
We’ve just conceded another 3 goals, we’ve kept 1 clean sheet all season. We have a manager who was a defender.
We’ve got no proper right back and our centre back recruitment been a total shambles. We’ve got a kid from stoke who’s useless , menayese who’s crippled and useless, an injury prone centre back from Newport, 1 who’s retired, Daniels and Taylor Allen. And we’re improving, honestly there’s no hope.
Oh another one who crops part of a post so no one sees the context and goes off at a tangent.
Nice one
It was aimed at the fact we have several young players showing ability and capability to make the grade over the next couple of years. Get a grip.
There’s no defending anything what I’ve said. It’s a total mess and Sadler doesn’t have a clue how to solve it. Unless we can defend we won’t win football matches and with that defence we’ve got no chance
I haven’t attempted to defend anything you said
But you cropped and quoted my post that had nothing to do with your points. Madness
Postives for me tonight were i thought Hutch was very good and it was nice to see DJ get a goal despite him missing a penalty he still looked a threat and hes not match sharp you could see that tonight. Some of the gloating over him tonight online is quite frankly embarrassing the same fans were jizzing themselves over us signing him.
