Reminds me of a story a guy told me when i worked at his house in Caldmore, he used to drink with a couple of mates in the Pen and Wig with George and Martin, and George used to wear this beautiful unusual coat, and this guy’s mate asked George if he could buy it.
So George said " you can have it if you sleep with me but i am not selling it"
But the guy was married with kids and said to George " ■■■■ off "
He didn’t see his mate for a couple of weeks but when he did see him next, he had the coat on :joy: :joy: :joy:

Great album. Got it on CD. I love the Idle Race and the Frank Zappa covers.

Yes he did. And Degville still lived there when I was at Walsall Art College there around 1980.

Their version of Shout is pretty good, I’ve just listened.
The singer was Dave Walker, who was lead singer with Black Sabbath for about 20 minutes in 1978, until Ozzy decided he wanted his job back.

Rob Halford from Judas Priest another Walsall music man

My brother told me one night he was drinking in The Trough when Boy George walked in and one of the regulars said something about the way he looked. Apparently O’Dowd just nutted him, and sparked him clean out, without even smudging his mascara.

I can heartily recommend Rob Halfords autobiography Confess. Like Noddys book there’s lots of great stuff about his early life growing up in Walsall.
He was interviewed by Richard Cole on Radio 4 before Christmas and he kept repeating how proud he was to be from the Black Country, and he still spends time here at his house in Gorway.
One amazing fact is that although Rob was born on the Beechdale and lived for many years around the corner from Noddy they have never met!

Sorry to interrupt, but is there any football chat on this thread?

I certainly hope not.

Anyway, back off topic.
2 years ago I was shown a photo in a family album from a birthday or anniversary do held in the hall at T.P. In the photo, which was of a line of people doing the Slosh, were my mom, an aunt, my dad’s cousin (whose do it was) and some bloke who my mom didn’t recognise… Noddy!
Bearing in mind this was taken around '72-'74 when they were The band, and my sisters and myself were fans, how come nobody mentioned this when they got back from this? Also why weren’t us kids at this party?
I’ve since discovered that Noddy was in another aunt’s class at T.P. and according to my uncle was thrown out of my Grandma’s house more than once!

Already has :man_shrugging: Maybe people were too busy on about a different club or a shit glam rock band:

Brings back great memories! Anybody out there know if the Trough is still in existence?

Final nail in the coffin.
Absolutely no soul. :ghost:

Thanks mate! Cant believe that such a little ship hole like that has survived. Similarly is the Oak still there on Lord Street near the ground? Always was a hotbed of older Walsall fans, but I imagine the Asian influence may have quenched that.
Cary on talking about boring footy if ya like folk…

The Royal Oak has been gone since about 2004. Not sure what it is now, if they made it into flats, or knocked it down and built on the site.

Just in case any of you have forgotten:

ITS MATCHDAY

We may not be able to be there in person but we’ll be there in spirit
COME ON YOU SADDLERS!
