New contract for Sadler

Just catching up on my socials. Bloody great news.

Regardless of his new contract if at the end of the season a moneybags team from the championship comes along, Sadler would be gone in a shot (and he would be foolish not to) What this will mean however is higher compensation to Walsall because of the length of the new contract………everyone will be a winner!

Excellent news from the club. Almost certainly prompted by other clubs sniffing around. It’s far better than the serve given Colin Lee…

What greet news this is.
Shows commitment from both sides and puts to bed any speculation that he might leave during the season.
Clubs are recognising that we have a gem of a manager that could go a long way in the game. It’s not only the results and his tactical awareness that is making them take note, but also the way he conducts himself, and the way he manages his players.
We should enjoy him while he is here.

I’m glad Trivela exercised some patience with Mat, look how it’s paid off.
Good move by the club and well deserved by the manager.

Trivela were in a minority at the end of last season. I think a majority of fans wanted a clean start with another manager. Trivelas response was to give him a contract extension and another one this week. Who said the yanks don’t know anything about football (soccer)? I think it shows we should give their football/business decisions a bit more respect in future…

A big majority didn’t want him in the first place, me included. By the end of last season I think a lot had come around to him, and it was acceptable progress given his starting point. I was more than happy for him to continue.

It was the recruitment that worried me more, but they have absolutely nailed it, long may it continue, that will be more important by some way over the coming years than who the manager is.

It’s definitely football, not soccer. Still calling for more respect and then calling them yanks  Things are going well, I have a lot more trust in them, mind you, it has come at a cost. :dollar: :dollar: :dollar:

I think after the last 20 years… I can understand people being a little unsure, pessimistic, down… on our club.

I don’t blame or laugh at a single person who got annoyed and upset aged the last 7/8 years especially. A pattern of disappointment and outright shambles has been our reward after false dawns, promises and failures.

I was a victim of this - I was just absolutely sick of year upon year of shite football and failure. I wanted my two boys to love the club as much as I did growing up - and I couldn’t see that with an embarrassment of who was the clubs board, and the shambolic nature of on the pitch, as well as off it.

So… after all of this? I think given the context, respect and trust had to be earned by Trivela.

My god, they have done that - and what a brilliant first 2 years or so we have had. We still have a way to go, but the way the club communicate and act has clearly changed. Absolutely fantastic and long may it continue.

This is what has disappointed me a little with some fans peacocking and winding up those who were (in my eyes) completely justified in being disillusioned.

All we want is a successful club - one that respects its fan base, and has some ambition. Other fans ripping into others for being affected by shambles after shambles doesn’t help - in fact, it’s the opposite of what Trivela (and Sadler) are trying to do in terms of unity ().

Here’s to better times. Long time coming. Just good to have something to believe in. It’s been a long time since dicky dosh and before that the championship years. Hopefully this year is start of something special

Same. I got so down about it all. Year on year of rubbish, combined with trying to get my boys to become life long fans, which I did but bloody hell it wasn’t easy when I was forcing myself to games. Like yourself, I’m not a casual fan, I’ve been home and away all my life, but the stink around the club was becoming unbearable.

So yeah it was hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. We sack Flynn after some of the most boring football I have ever witnessed and after an age they appoint Sadler, who had been part of it all. What are you meant to take from that? We had this before when Money left and we ended up appointing Mullen. It was just a natural reaction in my opinion to feel cheated.

To those that got it right from the off, fair play, I wasn’t one of them. I feel no shame, I support the Club well and always have. I am bloody loving what is happening now and so are my boys. Fantastic stuff.

Being honest though it doesn’t matter who you appoint as a club to a degree it’s ultimately a gamble. We have seen that with trying upcoming and experienced managers and you cannot guarantee it will work. I had hope when Sadler was appointed and liked the appointment but ultimately it was based on guesswork the same way people who were worried based their opinion on guesswork. Yes we all have arguments why but as above whether those arguments come true is based on a gamble and one that is currently paying off.

Ultimately all that matters is the club does all it can to show ambition and engage the fans which is far easier when we are performing as we are now but is far more important when we aren’t!

@Thanatos you’ve articulated that really well.

Earned respect is perhaps the best way to sum it up. Trivella have done this. So has Sadler.

From my point of view I’m not against MS being our manager and I’m not against Trivella owning Walsall football club. I’m not against a new deal just timing and optics as posted above.

Suggesting it’s glass half empty or overly negative for seeing the potential pitfalls in certain decisions isn’t fair especially when they are entirely plausible and possible.

We could all identify points over the last 30 years where things reached a boiling point and the pressure was on Bonser & Co … and it soon dissipated with a good run / manager / season. As people on here just want to be happy. It mirrors the attitude under Jeff. It didn’t change what Jeff did, it just took the heat off him till next time. So while we high5 trivella and commit to a happily ever after remember - the MULTICLUB MODEL should still be viewed with scepticism until the day it ends. It’s not our happily ever after.

This stat backs up perfectly Thanny’s and Blazings point nicely.

Is it really any wonder how many fans thought as they did when we have suffered so much bilge for so many years?

Some people have been crowing about the so called negative fans on here and other platforms and it’s been really disappointing to hear such criticism. We all want the best for Walsall. I think the vast majority of people are more than happy to hold their hands up and admit they might have been a bit hasty, given years of dross, and are absolutely LOVING this season.

The ‘until it ends’ remark seems to imply that Trivela’s involvement in us isn’t perhaps for the long term…. They’ve publicly stated their acquisition of us (and the other clubs they’ve bought) is part of a long term plan based around a model different to that of buy, flip and get out richer mentality so why are you so sure in your view that this will somehow ‘end’ and we’ll in some way be the unfortunate victim…

The Big fish, even bigger fish mentality prevails in all areas of business and if a moneybags investor turned up to try to wrestle WFC out of Trivela, I reckon that wouldn’t be that simple and personally, I trust the owners on their stated long term approach as they’ve (so far anyway) delivered on everything they said they would…)

Tell you what - I’d be delighted if we have a period of something more positive than the painful dross served up by the Bonser period of ownership… which is exactly what is happening currently…

Tom’s piece there says it all. A complete malaise for so many years. It shows just what an improvement this season has been!!. Long may it continue!!. To everyone with an opinion on here… we all want the same thing. A successful walsall team that represents us as fans. Hard working first and foremost, passion and exciting football that gets you off your seat. Time for the fans to stop bickering and ridiculing each other and EVERYONE get behind the club NOW!!

I don’t think anybody really cares now Walsall are doing well, but there is a wider point regarding the fact that if those who had wanted Sadler out had got there way, we would in all likelihood be facing another mid table season at best. It wasn’t a pleasant atmosphere at times last season.

I do think the understanding of football fans regarding what the manager is trying to do can impact on the results of the team itself. Maybe not massively, but to some extent. Hopefully there will be sensible debate around Sadlers team selections and tactics going forward as opposed to comparing Josh Gordon to a car type comments.

100%Imps forum suggests Mat is one for them to keep an eye on for the future

Luton looking for a new manager too ?

Even Sadler himself on 5 Live, spoke about the low feeling at the Club and the years of hurt that had gone before.

He actually gets it himself.
