Just picked up my retro kit and noticed that there is a contractor in high viz jacket spraying markings by the away end again … he was holding a folder which had top secret on it and inside was some plans … might be something or nothing, thought it was worth sharing though
Clever chap ….holding a folder and spraying ….not easy.
Dan Mole gave him some tips on doing 2 things at the same time, before he left.
More likely Mrs Mole as women are good at multi tasking so I am led to believe.
Slightly off topic, but has anyone heard anything about the poll results regarding renaming the stadium suites ?
Never have I ever wanted to play “whack-a-mole” more than I do when I hear his name.
I really think expanding the current stadium would cost a lot less than buying a new one.
Who has got a spare 20 acres that’s not green belted? I’m sure there are plenty of landowners, but is the property suitable for a 10K-15K seater stadium?
It may have been feasible 20 years ago, but with today’s rising costs for labor and materials, we’d be shelling out close to 30 million for a new stadium.
I’m guessing no more then 15 million to make the necessary improvements to Bescot, remove those damn stanchions, duplicate the away end same as the home end, expand the main stand and, if possible, increase the community stand capacity.
Easy when you know how!
Wouldn’t it be better using the £15m to strengthen the team, then when we get a full season of sellout attendances start thinking about extending the stadium?
Would you trust Sadler with 15 million?
Good point,well made…
Pence?
In many ways, the stadium is what is the commonality in the team. All the personnel change frequently, the strip now changes each year and even the owners change from time to time. Moving to Bescot was a big wrench and it has never had the atmosphere of FP. We should have plans for extension but, at the moment, stabilising the onfield affairs is more important, as well as maintaining financial security.
I don’t think we need an extension.
We so rarely get anywhere near capacity.
Would love to see those ruddy pillars removed though, guess it would be an expensive job for no return.
A cantilever replacement roof won’t be cheap!
The £15M is just a figure plucked out of the air by @davidusa which might or might not be in the right ballpark, but let’s assume it is about right. Even if it was the cost of a one-off stadium upgrade at some point in time, I wouldn’t expect it to be £15M in one lump sum out of Trivela’s pocket but some sort of loan arrangement repaid over a number of years. Would anyone think that borrowing £15m to splurge on players in one go now would be good business if we are still paying it off (with interest) in a few years time regardless of whether or not the gamble worked out?
Paying higher salaries, transfer fees, and signing on fees? Yeah, it might get you a better class of player than we have, but doesn’t guarantee it (I mean we could just up the wages of all the players we already have - it wouldn’t automatically make them better players, just higher paid ones). And even if it did, better individual players doesn’t always translate into a better overall team or league position. If it did, then why are Salford still slumming it with the rest of us in L2?
As I’ve said before, most people look at it from purely a Walsall fan-centric point of view (the result of the next game being the only thing that matters) and not the bigger picture that most club owners will be more concerned with. Understandable, but that way madness lies.
Maybe they are going to build the new stadium for Drogheda and get us to ground share😛
A RyanAir flight to Dublin is probably, cheaper, quicker and more reliable than public transport round here😁
It’s working well for Hollywood Rovers, they sellout every week, and it’s worth their while to spend money to extend the ground.
I’d only splurge £14.9m on players, the other hundred grand would be spent on state of the art chip fryers for all the catering kiosks.
Currently ground extension being most covered by the Welsh tax payer…
I heard a rumour that the new Stadium was off the table if we lost to FGR
What do you think it is a game of subuteo
