They will probably blame the cheap appointment on the fact season tickets are way down, well that’s down to you trivella, when you announced a double inflation price increase, the season was still alive but that’s when you blew it. At a reasonable increase I would have renewed. I don’t blame you for a second with the DJ issue, the only person who made that deal impossible was DJ himself and I wouldn’t welcome him back now (not that I think he’d come back), but instead of trying to grow the fan base of the club you chose to rinse the existing fan base and that’s why you’re sales bombed.
This appointment feels underwhelming.
Reminds me of a time when I went on a date with a young lady who when turning up at the restaurant was nothing like her profile and I felt nothing but disappointment and pessimism. However that night still ended with a happy ending so hoping this story does to!
But the sword of Damocles ie relegation to the National League was not hanging over your head at the time and and it sounds like you scored in time added on.
Did you get the sack after 12 games when she wanted more than you could provide ?..asking for a friend
Its so Walsall. No ambition.
In the email and i quote:
“Sadler has been an integral member of the coaching team over the past three seasons…”
The last three seasons have culminated in our 3 worst finishes in L2… its not a positive that he has been involved.
Will give him my support, but he’ll be gone by Nov.
Not an appointment that I am enthused about.
Having said that, I am not sure, out of those mentioned, who I wanted.
Who was obviously better?
I will support Matt Sadler and my team as will pretty much everyone else on here.
Lets hope he proves us all wrong.
UTS.
He could have gone down…
Agree manager at this stage is not the most important thing to sort .the structural problems day to day running of the club ie. Pom and co are .BB could see Sadler as a safe pair of hands and the best choice at this moment in time while he sorts this out will take time hopefully not to long and mybe we will get some more information soon .I sincerely hope that’s the case .patience is needed I understand fans concern that we’re one season away from no league football .I’ll give Sadler my backing and hope he’s successful and give Trivela the chance to put this club on a proper footing for the future .we’ve tried the magic bullet mangers DC and Flynn both failed.don’t want to go that road again .don’t work .Dean smith was a successful manger at this club .if you compare Sadler and him that have a lot in common .Sadler played at higher level and under better mangers than Smith .give him our support .sometimes when your looking for something it can be right under your nose .
The refs nowadays are used to muff diving looking for a pelanty
Well it is what it is. Needs a good assistant, needs Labadie and White at least gone as they are toxic. Needs alucky type DJ to at least get us going. Everyone give him 100% at the start because it will only drop us in the shite. Flynn was given unbelievable support despite the facts. Christ its depressing supporting Walsall since they left Fellows Park. If we were in Division one we could try this experiment. The fact weve bounced about close to the National League since going down makes this a very bold move. … As a Walsall fan i hope it works. As a hard headed business man and ex cop i think theres gold under the stadium
Good story.
Letting standards slip usually doesn’t equal success though
Well the last 3 permanent appointments were almost universally popular and look how they turned out.
I am willing to give Matt a chance, the board have done their bit and employed a belt and braces approach to the recruitment process and the result was Sadler was the outstanding candidate. I am also hugely encouraged that he knows better than any external candidate the relative character and strengths and weaknesses of the current group and what we need to make us a force again next season. He will no doubt need some support and experience amongst his backroom staff so I will wait with interest on the appointment of his assistant and whatever structural changes are undertaken which for the medium and long term success are every bit as important as the appointment of Matt.
Certainly underwhelming. First thoughts are he’s an easy safe choice to be a yes man to the new set up.
Our weakest on paper appointment since Dean Smith who was actually our last decent manager. So he gets a fair crack of the whip.
Sadler will get my full unequivocal support. I’m not expecting top 7 by Xmas. I’m expecting us to be top half within striking distance of the top 7.
I would not be shocked if poor old Mat finds himself under pressure by October and gone by Xmas - I hope not as it’s another season gone.
Hope this turns out to be a master stroke, but share the reservations about the appointment. More than anything I hope Sadler doesn’t become the latest good servant of the club to be scapegoated and hounded out because of the short-sighted decisions of those in charge.
If we don’t support Mat then it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy! The choice of his assistant and the first 2 or 3 signings will be crucial in sending a message to the fans that the club is actually serious about promotion.
I’ve appointed several senior people internally in my career, sometimes testing the market as the club have done. I fully expect it was a proper process and MS was demonstrably the best of a wide field so no problem with that. Also, even though he was part of the ‘problem’ we can’t understate enough how he must have followed instructions from the boss. He’s already shown us something different and I for one trust the new owners have made the right choice. It’s clearly been a lengthy and through process - unlike the typical football ‘shoe in’ at rapid pace we regularly see and have done at WFC previously which rarely ended well.
The negativity, lazy assumptions and conclusions and generally shoddy articulation by some of our fans suggests to me - through no fault of their own - a lack of knowledge and experience about how larger SMEs / companies work and recruit. It’s a bit embarrassing in terms of some of the level of debate.
It’s Christmas for the boo boys!
Sadler wasn’t my 1st choice but I’m not wasting any energy in participating in a mass collective whinge, it just seems so pointless. I truly hope those who indulge find some catharsis in it. Let’s give him a chance, see who we bring in and hope for a good start. Why not?
We have to get behind him - it is as simple as that. Flynn had a good reputation as did Clarke and where did that get us?
Whilst he may have been a coach in the previous regime he was not the boss. Therefore I reckon he must have been coaching players as instructed by the boss - he cant just do his own thing. Hopefully now being in charge will empower him as he implements his own ideas and strategy.
If this does not work well people will surely even more look at our club and think what the hell is wrong with us. Now we have a new coach I will sit back and wait for the all important changes at Board level.
UP THE SADDLERS
The guy had 3 games with Flynns players and people are writing him off. At least wait until he has his own team set up and they’ve played together for a month or 2.
If he gets booed before his team takes to the pitch then I despair for the so called fans of this club.
This.
Still struggling to understand why you’d promote from within after 3 years of failure. I can only imagine they don’t define “failure” like we do.
Maybe one day people will listen to those “whingers” instead of parroting what they say a few months later
F***ing blows my mind that people STILL take this point of view how many times does it have to be proven? There’s zero reason to have confidence in these decisions.
