Notts County (A) 20th July, 3pm

It’s the Walsall disease, apart from a couple of seasons in recent history, always has been.
We have let our 20 goal a season striker waltz off to a competitor in the same Division, and look as if the ‘it’ll do’ mantra “remains the same”.
Looks as if the first half team will be more or less the starting 11, with DC stating we should have had 2 or 3…now where have we heard that before?

I’ll say it again, we are 3 players short of being competitive.

Pre season or not it’s obvious.

If he is going with 352 then where are these 3 players you talk about going to fit in?

CF, CB for starters

1 winger to compliment Mcdonald if he wants to switch it up

Would be nice if we could try and gain an affiliation with a premier league club - secure some of the young and talented players on loan

What was the rumour we had connections with United?

Or am i dreaming that?

Crickey, so do you really believe the squad is capable to challenge for promotion?

Are you suggesting that three quality players would not be welcome… I’m missing your point ?

So i take it that’s Gordon and Scarr replaced?

I wouldn’t replace Scarr or Gordon actually, just to provide competition and rotate, extra quality.

I’ve never been worried about preseason friendlies. I remember seeing loads of them in my youth and sometimes we were appalling but far better once the season started.

Dont forget; this is a new squad and time is needed to gel.I reckon the game against the cobblers will be wholly different.

:grinning:

Actually think Scarr could be quite important for us this season

Commands the back line and no nonsense, something you need in this league - he’s basic, but he does them well.

You mean we will still lose 2-1, with DC commenting that we should have had 2 or 3 ‘in the 2nd half’ perhaps?

Today’s first 11
Rose=good distribution, didn’t have a save to make (almost a costly mistake tho).
Norman =looked better today and put some decent crosses in.
C mollet=steady good feet.
Scarr=solid display.
Sadler=lacked
a little pace but looks good in a back 3.
Clarke=very impressed clearly a leader of men great defensively and a threat from set pieces.
Kinnsella=you know what you will get with kinns 110% committed as ever today.
Sinclair= impressive today will be a key player in league 2 leads by example.
Guthrie= showed some good touches and our best bet to take the set pieces with his delivery. Needs to improve his fitness alot though.
Adebayo=like what I saw he’s a handful and can only improve with Stewarts guidance.
Gordon = did well without creating to much hassled and hurried the county defence as always.

And a mention for Alfie bates showed some great touches and can really strike a ball as he showed when almost scoring from 25 yards.

Not to worried about the result today as I think we would have ran out winners if it was not for the number of changes we made with 30mins left.

We will be, and it will probably end up costing us a place in the top three or play off’s! Hoping that DC has a plan for said striker, or my money for an auto place will be well and truly ‘down the drain’.

My observations from today.
Defensively we are gonna be fine, this team won’t be leaking goals like last 2 seasons.
Midfield will break up opponents however there’s no creativity in there, this worries me.
Adeboyo and Gordon work their socks off for the team but I struggle to see either of them scoring the amount of goals needed to get us promoted.
Someone should tell Marc Czuczman he’s a physio not a footballer so should stop ■■■■■■■ about in warm ups pretending he’s Messi and concentrate on the job the club is paying him to do.

Agree for a serious tilt at promotion we do need an experienced striker who knows how to find the back of the net… Even if we have to splash 100k

Clarke’s been very open about switching formations game to game and even within matches. To do that, we’ll need at least a couple more wingers and potentially another striker.

Erm, why?
