Player Of The Season 23/24

It’s a toss up as we all know Hutchinsons numbers an ability to win us matches but Comley is my shout right now for the fact he has carried the midfield effort on his back so many times.

Too often the other 2 midfielders dissappear defensively and it’s him trying to mop up on his lonesome. He reminds me more of Adam Chambers the more he plays for us.

Taylor Allen an honourable mention though, his impact on the side with that left foot has been nothing short of incredible at times.

I think it’s unfortunate but a harsh reality that people in the main judge a PoS on the back end of the season rather than the season as a whole.

Allen, for all he has done recently to be mentioned as a player of the year is just absurd.

Its not unfortunate. Without Comley and Allens contributions, we would still be bottom half. The ‘back end of the season’ is the only time we’ve been decent/consistant.

Oh that’s nonsense!

The only time we’ve been decent?

Jesus, 2 games ago we hadn’t won for 4 :rofl::rofl:

Player of the season is exactly that….player of the SEASON and to do that in looked at who’s made the most impact over 52/54 games….playing 20% of them doesn’t count even if they’ve been good for those games….the season involves incredible stamina and resilience and that means playing well in the sh!t and the muck and at times when everyone’s playing poorly and digging in when you’re 16th and battling the odds.

Every player will have poor spells and sitting on the periphery of the season for the majority of it and coming in and playing well for short periods does not constitute player of the season.

Just my opinion of course but to me it’s laughable.

Approx 75% of the games for me, before being in my thoughts for PoY and like I say too often what players did in October is more often forgotten up against what a player does in March, which is fundamentally wrong.

I think you can add Matt to that as well

Maybe not got to upset about FANS player of the season award different opinions factors they judge it on .all valid opinions.understand there’s a players vote as well .maybe we could also offer them the wisdom of our knowledge

Yes. Just a quick tally

Before Comley came back into the team W4 D5 L6

Since Comley came back W12 D7 L8

And when Allen started after Daniels was injured with both Comley and Allen starting W7 D2 L2

Earing worth mentioning in the same breath as Comley.

I dont think anyone would be unhappy if Hutchinson was Player of the season but no amount of your laughing emoji’s should discredit anyone elses perfectly reasonable and rational vote for Comley.

There were no laughing emojis whatsoever for a perfectly reasonable and rationale vote for Comley……

But for Taylor Allen……well come on!! I like the guy and have been clear on that since he was offered a new contract and everyone moaned about it and I was also clear that I thought he did well at CB earlier in the season….but he’s not a player of the year candidate.

In minutes played alone it can be narrowed down to :-

Hutch
Gordon
Comley
Daniels
Knowles

After that you’re voting for a favourite who’s done well for a relatively very short period of time.

It’s definitely not as simple as it appears to be is it ,this POS .wasn’t aware of all this different criteria’s think I’ll give it a miss .

All I’ve seen is ‘special mention’. No more silly than mentioning Knowles really.

Also….it wasn’t just aimed at your post.

And no it’s not as silly as mentioning Knowles….

I personally wouldn’t vote for Knowles but in terms of the games he’s played and the evidence of how he’s been missed it’s a fair enough shout.

It’s just my opinion that a player of the season needs to be considered over the impact they’ve had over the whole Season!!

You have to experience ups and downs and good and bad times……a player coming in for short periods doesn’t have to deal with the challenges of playing 4 games in 12 days over Xmas or Saturday / Tuesday for 12 weeks in a row!!!

That in itself will lead to some ups and downs in form.

I agree. Hutch is class. But its never so simple. Id still go Comley

Wacker won POS a few times and there were a vouple of times when it was simply absurd given who was in fromt of him.

I was suprised to see that Allen has the 11th most minutes in the squad. So I don’t think it’s as crazy as you make out. It’s also a really nice story about a local lad who most of us had written off.

But don’t worry, if you put a gun to my head, I’d still probably vote for your darling boy Hutchinson.

It’s a vote Milan don’t tell him I’m not ,just put my x in the box .its getting like that politics thread on here :joy:

I agree there are always varying opinions on such things as PoY but I do maintain my belief that to even be in the running you have to have at least played or been involved in most games…arguably I’d say around 75%….

As I say to me that immediately short lists 5 players and I couldn’t justifiably add anyone else to that list based on having not played often enough.

My original point was however, that it’s a shame but a reality that people’s natural memory process often favours a good end of season over a good start of one….

It was never about that and you know it.

11th on the list at about 1500 minutes over a whole season is, in my opinion, not enough to warrant a PoY. Especially when 90% on here were critical of the first 1000 of them!!

Thats all I was saying.

If you’d replied with that initially I would have just thought fair enough.

Instead you went on one of your usual condescending tirades.

You can disagree with someone without being disrespectful.

That’s complete rubbish. It wasn’t condescending whatsoever.

All I said was that it was absurd for anyone to consider that Allen should be a strong contender for PoY and then stated why I thought that.

It was perfectly constructive and logical and I simply made a statement that it’s unfortunate but the reality is people will NATURALLY judge based more on what they’ve seen recently than what went on earlier in the season.

Btw

I agree Comley is putting a strong case together but personally I don’t think what he does goes unnoticed at all. I think he’s doing exactly what he’s always done and I’ve always been a big admirer of it.

If you check back I said this when Flynn was still in charge!

The difference is right now at this stage of the season, with pitches deteriorating and games becoming more pressured the games are becoming scrappier and it’s more noticeable what he’s offering.

He’s very very consistent and his game is much the same week to week regardless of opponent.

For me that seems about right
Hutch has been our hero to often through goals or assists to not be first . We would Be no where near where we are without him . One of the best we have had in league 2 and will go on to higher leagues
