The Liam Kinsella Thread

Thought he was non-league. Make yer mind up.

Same thing :wink::grin:

He didnā€™t play all those years as a Cm at that level, Whitney was playing him at right back and Keates at start of his tenure kept him there.

He only played week in week out as CM from 18/19ā€¦

Kinsella does give his all. But like alot have said team, really hasnt any punch in the midfield. I think time he left as he doent give anything to motivate team going forward.

Sorry to those who rate him

You never know with players sometimes. Iā€™d have said Dan Scarr was non league after watching his 18 months here and he is starting yet again for Plymouth v Ipswich in top of league 1 clash.

With Joe Edwards aswell two of the relegated 18/19 line up who are starters in consistent top 6/7 down in Devon.

Perhaps someone like Oxford will pick up Kinsella and heā€™ll look really good for them.

Just to show a bit of balanceā€¦ I actually think he would work much much better in a 433 which is a high press energetic side - then he would be great in that sort of setup.

Howeverā€¦ we couldnā€™t be further from that sort of side, and Iā€™m convinced only really elite level teams/players can play that way and be successful.

The type or football we seem to play is deep and passing through the thirdsā€¦ well, we sort of started like that. Whatā€™s happened now is a complete lack of confidence and we have resorted to channel ball.

Plymouth leading nowā€¦so much potential down there especially with the support they regularly pull in. Could well be the surprise promotion from league 1 this year and good luck to them.

His best role is coming on in the 65th minute to play in front of the defence to protect and see out our two goal advantage.

I dont think I will ever see him play that role.

That is because until the start of 18/19 we had Adam Chambers. Once Chambers retired Kinsella took over his position, and did so very successfully.

So successfully that Kinsella was playing centre midfield when he was voted:
Playersā€™ Player of the Year 2020/21,
Supportersā€™ Player of the Year 2020/21
Supportersā€™ Player of the Year 2021/22.

So not only is he highly regarded by six successive managers, but also by his fellow players and by the majority of regular spectators.

This thread is nothing other than an internet pile-on.

Youā€™d think itā€™s a one man team

This post is proof of how far our standards have slipped as a group of supporters.

So successful that we were relegated from league one, and finished in the bottom half of league two three seasons running.

Really successful that. All whilst contributing 0 league goals and assists.

ā€œTHATS NOT HIS JOB THOUGH :rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage::rage:ā€

He won player of the year awards because of how absolutely terrible we were.

There was nothing to choose for those awards other than the player who ran around most.

Add to the fact heā€™s ā€œone of our ownā€

We currently have 3/4 strikers who canā€™t score a goal between them, a goal keeper who canā€™t catch a cold , a left back who really is non league standard , yet we start a thread on last years player of the season :joy::joy::joy:

How many goals did Adam Chambers score? How many assists did he make?

Can you explain why Keates has been a first choice for six very different managers: Whitney, Keates, Clarke, Dutton, Taylor and Flynn if he is so bad.

Are they all blind to his faults even though they work with him every day in training and see him play 50 matches a year? Do NONE of them know good players from bad players?

At the end of each season managers like to clear out the players who have not been performing, yet year after year they all decide to keep Kinsella. Funny that.

Darrell Clarke, like him or not, is a shrewd manager at this level. He played Kinsella every week and gave him a new two year contract in January 2021, presumably because other clubs were sniffing round during the window.

Thatā€™s the thing, for all of Kinsellaā€™s shortcomings (perceived or otherwise) heā€™s the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues with this team. Donā€™t worry though, Labadie will be fit soonā€¦
