The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread 2024 II

Took off twitter for anyone who doesn’t want to listen to the whole thing

Key takeaways from Mat Sadler’s interview with @sportbbcwm/@DazHaleWM

  • Names Jamie Jellis, Jack Earing, and Ronan Maher as players that can step up in place of Isaac Hutchinson.

  • Knew for a while that Isaac Hutchinson and Jackson Smith would likely be leaving.

  • Learned a lot about his character: very people-oriented, respect is huge for him.

  • Mentions continuity and stability as a big part of moving the club forward.

  • Credits the fans for good home form, opposition players and managers dislike coming to the Bescot.

  • Away form is an area to improve that has been identified. - Biggest takeaway from first season in charge: being adaptable

  • Knowing the player on a personal level is just as important as their tactical fit to the team.

  • Says that a couple more additions are definitely needed in forward areas.

  • Big recruitment team, but he gets the final say.

  • Richard O’Kelly acts as a sounding board for him, says he is an incredible person and he often speaks to the board on football matters.

  • No set targets given by the board, isn’t the way they work. Collective effort to keep improving.

  • Notes improvement in atmosphere and unity at the club, wants to give the fans “something to shout about”.

Looks like Josh scored twice last season, not just the once!!

Surely it’s at least Lady KingCrod, if not the Duchess of KingCrod?

Hope you spared a thought for the mistress!

QueenCrod surely…

Earing is better as an 8, not sure he’d be as effective in the 10 position or drifting out wide. McEntee back in that position with Earing pushed ahead doesn’t really convince me.

Jellis came from two divisions below and barely figured in the run in.

Maher will hopefully get a chance but still only 19 so patience needed.

Interesting he didn’t name Larkin as the direct replacement for Hutch.

It’s really looking exciting isn’t it .

We didn’t play with a 10 last season, most of the time it was one pivot with two 8s I think it’s more of a case of getting those players to share the load rather than it be pinned on one.

Would Flash work as a 10? play more as a 361?

Is 361 the number of days it’ll take him to score a goal Tone?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Tbh this season i think walsall will be playing with 2 wings, a scrum half, a hooker and 4 big men pushing the ruck forward. New tactics said by sadler in wm interview, but wasnt aired, i heard it from the pigeon who flew passed

I’m fed up with armchair-managers thinking they know better than Sadler.

It will be a silly mid-off and a long leg. Deffo.

Only saying what the pigeon said, its a reliable pigeon gives westie the inside info

If he knew Smith was leaving and he was intending to release Evans why do we currently only have 1 untried 1st team keeper?

Wasn’t Waddock brought in to do that?

It certainly sounds like although he acknowledged the need for a couple more forwards there is nothing imminent and we will have to be patient for the moment until things fall into place with the clubs we are looking at them from. I’d also say it’s likely at least one if not both will be loan signings as it’s unlikely we will be paying any significant fees for a forward. If these players were out of contract then you’d think they would have got them in by now.

The other signings he seemed to intimate are more likely to be squad players and cover more than key personnel, and he’s happy with the group he’s got currently even if it is a bit light on numbers.

Or we currently on Plan F.
Alternatively, 1 is Irish and we’re patiently waiting for him to score a goal.

Transfer window closes at 11.00pm on Friday 30th August so there’s plenty of time yet.

Not necessarily no. If you’re out of contract you will probably get more options (if you’re any good). You’ve got the wages to think of. Depending on your age whether you want to drag you and your family halfway across the country even if they offer you more money. Maybe they’d prefer a club within traveling distance, or a manager/player at a club who they know well. Or maybe we’re waiting for someone who will play for £500 per week who are injury prone or in their late 30s.
