The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread 2024 II

It’s the same every season. We are the small shark that has to wait to have a chomp at the whale carcass, while the bigger fish have had first dibs. This lack of ambition is really wearing after 60 years!

Interesting you say we are being taken backwards so far there isn’t any evidence of that I can see. Concern about our striker situation, yes. Been in this division longer than any fan wants, yes.

However if you buy a boat that has holes in it you don’t just hire a new captain and sail away. You fix the holes first. It may seem the ship is sitting their rotting away in the meantime but some times it takes a bit of time to do the repairs in the background before everyone sees the benefits of doing them.

Is that what is happening, hopefully and off field improvements etc suggest their is intent their but unless you have money you can’t just buy success and even if you do have that money it doesn’t always work to throw money at the problem.

Know what you mean my motor falling to pieces keeps breaking down really old ,think I need to build a nice new garage to put it in .

Problem with waiting for the ship to get repaired is that the customers bugger off onto another boat!!. Supporters won’t wait forever with incremental promises

Thats utter nonsense.

I bumped into Conor Wilkinson in Tamworth over 3 weeks before we played Solihull and he told me that the club were working hard on an exciting signing.

I asked who it was, he grinned and said “someone I know well”. Hardly last minute; these things take time.

Wilkinson and DJ upfront! Compare that to Matt and Gordon: are we really moving forward?!!

That’s part of both the issue and benefit of a football team, most people who go are fans rather than customers and therefore an element of loyalty exists regardless of performance etc. in a way (cost aside as everything is running out of control so how much their hands were tied compared to how much they wanted to raise extra money) at least they are done work on parts of the match day experience they can control because again you can throw money at players and still be awful. My main point is writing owners off this early on is really unfair on the whole, I mean maybe they have tried throwing money at it and players and agents are saying Walsall, no chance you are having a laugh. Not really the sort of thing an owner wants to come out and say if that was the case. Ultimately we can’t sign or chose the squad so we just have to decide if we want to go along for the ride.

Not doubting their off the field stuff. There’s been a lot of good done no doubt. Just what underpins every football club is just that…the football. Feels like a key time for trivela. It could go very wrong very quick if the season doesn’t start well. Hoping that it does for everyone at the club. I think they did chuck some money at it last seadon ie DJ,faal, JG, priest etc without getting into the play offs. Now the tail off out of the play offs towards the end of last season have left season ticket sales down. Perhaps their not willing to put the money in again. The caveat to that is the season has to start well imo to give the fans a lift and something to believe in. A bad start could cause a lot of tension between the fans and the powers that be. Just my opinion of course

My taking the club backwards is in relation to the general quality of player particulary the forward ones we now seem able to afford. The average league 2 journeyman striker now seems totally out of our league !!!. Look at all those players Morroco mole referenced us missing out on. Nothing more than standrad lower league pros !

very worrying and as someone else has said I don’t feel we’re quite bottomed out yet !!!

I have been known to talk utter nonsense to be fair, so I’ll allow it.

Still a week to the day until the season kicks off is last minute whichever way you look at it.

Ryan Bowman signs for Cheltenham so maybe that was the experienced striker Flynn was after @Andy_Petterson (not DJ)…

Oh of course it could and I totally get that thought process and opinion. I try to look a bit more objectively in that we secured Matt and Stevens in a January transfer window. We had DJ (albeit on loan and then permanent). We had Draper and replaced with Gordon and Faal.

So to sum up the club tried experience and youth and have had varying success, albeit we’ve not tried the throw money at someone to get them to drop a few division approach (probably can’t afford that and don’t have the pull as a club currently either).

I’m now firmly in the camp of just see what happens, I haven’t regularly been for a while because I just can’t afford it and play sport instead on Saturdays but when that ends I will most likely get a season ticket and bring my lads along. I remember when we were struggling in League One some people saying relegation may be good as we can reset and I was always against that because of where we now find ourselves as money has ruined football and the gap between divisions just gets bigger and bigger and it’s sad because I was lucky enough to see the Division 1 years that many younger fans either don’t remember or weren’t born for.

Long ramble made short I couldn’t care less who we sign I just hope we have a good run on the pitch but with a sustained model so we have a club in years to come. I was worried when Bonser was here about what does it look like when he leaves, will someone buy the club up and asset strip it until it goes bankrupt because of the Catch22 he put us in with rent payments but also being rather well ran financially for a football club. Instead we are here with owners investing in areas (even if in the pitch it’s slow going at best!) and I couldn’t careless if who we get in up front has never scored before because ultimately it may come off (just as signing proven may fail) and we could just have a magical season.

Ben Waine still an option for loan when he gets back from the Olympics.

Clutching at straws now but Vadaine Oliver (as others have pointed out) would be a decent pick up.

jeeez nice try. But after failed attempts for all those other lower league journeyman Id imagine this one would scare the hell out of Benj with his wage demands.

Could try offering him the same in dollars I suppose and hope he dosnt notice :dollar::dollar::dollar::dollar::joy:

I’m clutching at straws I know, but in my mind we have a couple of deals signed and sealed for strikers and are just waiting for other players to move and jigsaw pieces to drop into place and then all will be revealed.

Have you been drinking ?
