A 6ft midfielder, fits the bill of what’s required IMHO.
Only 34 league starts for FGR across two years, 24 as a sub, but 8 goals in those appearances suggests he’s more potent than anyone we’ve currently got in CM.
Guess he’ll still fit the hungry footballer mantra as he’s late into the professional game.
Trying to stay patient…hopefully Clarke has a few aces up his sleeve because we desperately need 2 more players imo. Hope we don’t do it the Walsall way and try and feed off the scraps at the end of January. Let’s build on the positivity and get our targets in early .
I’m a little disappointed that we are yet to bring none in.
DC has been going on about January for months and months, about freshening things up, moving a few on and all that.
I expected him to have targets and get them in early, he seemed so desperate for January.
I’m also underwhelmed with the players we are being linked with. It could just be media talk but we missed out the striker who opted for FGR over us. If LP and DC want to gatecrash t( 0lay offs we need 2 or 3 with quality
Agreed especially as everybody else is making a move on players or at least saying more are gonna arrive at clubs like the Carlisle manager has done today.I personally didn’t think anything was gonna be any different to any other transfer window and so far I’m being proven correct hold tight for a final hour influx of more gash coming in come on DC get a move on
I would say our upturn in form has afforded DC the time to be picky with his signings. I personally would rather he keeps the money for next season when a full assessment can be made, perhaps get a few loans in for cover.
I think with Wes signing people are expecting a couple of decent signings to back this up , but have we pushed the boat out to get him and left ourselves short for anymore signings ?
I hope not because we desperately need an attacking midfielder to bridge the gap between defence and attack , it’s so disappointing seeing all this sidewards / backpassing ( which is very good ) but then followed with a hopeful lump forward in the hope one of our attackers might get on the end of it , which invariably they don’t because they are pushing out wide .
We need another out and out striker , who knows where the back of the net is , a target man , such as Cook but without the attitude
One thing all successful football managers learn is the art of Bullshine. Cloughie was a past master, Fergie?? Mourinho??? You can go on and on. While they’re getting results it buys them time but they still throw in their safety net philosophising because they know they are a couple of bad results away from needing it. DC’s tenure with us is classic this, and I quite like it because it shows him to be someone that knows the game and how he will need to manipulate scenarios (including us fans) in order to achieve success. Sometimes he will come accross as ludicrous, other times he will look like a genius, of course he is neither. Football management is a basket case proffession, and DC is an entertaining loon who has succeeded with the popular “call a spade a shovel” approach, tailed off, ended up at our club, and is now trying to rebuild his career at our place where you can learn on the job using your previous attributes and any new ones you acquire along the way. Again I like that.
This whole January thing that he’s been banging on about is now something he’s going to have to manage because all of sudden he’s got a team that’s doing ok, with players like Gordon (who couldn’t hit a barn door early season), McDonald, Bates and maybe even Perry that suddenly look better, or at least potentially better than his big summer signings, a keeper that could easilly go on and be better than Etheridge…or not.
Its entertaining, even though some of the football has been beyond dire, lets hope we’re through that now and can enjoy DC and his bunch of misfit ragamuffins becoming something worth watching and remembering in the best traditions of Walsall FC.
Not massively arsed at the minute. We have a squad that is proving to be getting better week by the week. Wes signing was massive and for me a winger, a forward playing midfielder and a proven L2 goal scorer is all we need, but even without them I still fancy us to carry on with the positivity of recent weeks.
I’d like to think Liddle being released freed up enough funds to tie Wes up. Maybe Kiersey aswell although he’d be one of the lowest paid in the squad you’d imagine.
Holden seems to have turned a corner for us and is being a lot more consistent , which many of us thought was never going to happen , so does DC think Gaff and Ady , if persevered with may turn it round ?
How long do we try and back these players , I for one don’t think either have shown enough to continue with and would rather see a couple of new forwards in the squad to back Flash and Lavs
