I think that’s where Gaffney got the shushing finger from Sid …
Gaffney works hard and although he isn’t very good at the moment, he has not let Clarke down in the past (before injuries and age took a yard of pace off him, I suspect).
It seems that we are stuck with Gaffney for the moment so I guess we have to accept it and try and get behind him.
To give a positive spin, Holden is winning over the doubters and against Pompey, he played well in centre midfield. I was also at Notts County back in the day when a certain Trevor Benjamin bundled in a late goal which secured our promotion under Dickie Dosh. Most fans would agree that he wasn’t a great player by that stage of his career but he made a really telling positive contribution to Walsall FC’s history.
Each to their own but I don’t think Rowe is the answer for Walsall.
Similar posts @jjunior9 and maybe we can’t send Gaffney back dependent on the deal the two Clubs have agreed , but what about Ady ? do you think we as supporters and as a Club have got the same annoying opinion there maybe a footballer in there somewhere , or just cut our losses and get some fresh blood in to gamble on
I can see it now, fifth minute of added time away at Bradford on the final day, its us or them for the last automatic promotion spot after an incredible second half of the season. The ball falls to Gaffney on the bi line and he tries to cross it to an un-marked Adebayo, but accidentally it hits his standing foot…but this time ricochets back onto his kicking foot as it swings back into its natural position…the ball falls for Adebayo 2 feet out…he can’t miss…but somehow manages to smash the ball into Gaffney’s ginger gonads…the ball trickles over the line and we win!! Gaffney as a result becomes Daphne, and goes on to top score for the Ireland Womens team as they win the Euros in 2021.
I was thinking exactly the same! And then Kevin Keegan takes over from Southgate and we bring on the sugar puffs monster to score the winning goal from a diving header! ENGLAND WIN THE EUROS AND WALSALL GET PROMOTION! #itscominghome #livinlavidagaffney
If we can’t get any takers for Hardy or Elijah, we’ll have to persevere because we can’t afford to carry anybody at Walsall. However, if Fylde took Hardy, Wrexham took Adebayo on loan and we gave this Kwame Thomas a contract until the end of the season, I can see Clarke preferring to twist than stick, to freshen up the squad.
I personally would of liked to see Hardy get more game time , when we first played him he looked quite promising , but was soon dropped by DC .
A similar scenario where Holden was played and looked very dodgy but wasn’t allowed to drop out of the team due to the financial implications forced on us by Bristol but he has started to come good , would this be the same with Hardy given the chance
A striker and a winger is ideal, but this is Walsall.
We must sign at least one wide player, even if Gordon is looking very effective slightly more wide, imagine how crap we would be if McDonald pulled a muscle. Also Holden looks a new player the more he plays as “ten” it’s criminal to shove him right wing again
Exactly a few injuries and we will be in a mess if we don’t get a few signings in could be the difference between a play off push or no play off push and supporters ■■■■■■ off again. Like I said let’s hope DC has a few aces up his sleeve.
Good stuff but I think your imagination has got the better of you…no way could Daphne top score in anything let alone the women’s euro championship: The rest of it is completely plausible.
Winger and striker for me.
3 needed for me.
Striker, right winger and creative midfielder.
Offload Liddle, Hardy, Adebayo and Guthrie.
If we get in a wonder, striker and a central midfielder - we can really look up the table and not down.
We are crying out for a midfielder who can get into the opposition box and arrive late.
Just thinking out loud - can anyone recall any time in a match that our midfielders regularly get into the box ? They always seem to be 20 yards from the edge of the opposition box.
Of course this does happen (Bates goal at Scunny) but I don’t think we do it enough.
Adebayo does have something but still very raw in terms of his presence and decision making.
He’s still actually scored some goals recently and is a Walsall player so I’d give him the benefit of doubt over someone on loan who’s not been very good.
For me it all depends on what the club want from this season we are showing signs of improvement most certainly in the past 2 months are they happy with this and possibly resigned to another season at this level and saving the money for in the summer or will they push the boat out in the hope of a play off push which is possible in our current league position? we shall see this month i said i would be happy enough with a top half finish before the season started so i guess i am willing to accept both scenarios as things stand.
Fair point what happens if McDonald gets injured? We can’t play with wingers is the answer at the moment.
The club should be going all out in my opinion. Get some quality in and if we climb the table great, if we don’t at least they are settled and ready for next season.
We can’t afford another last minute rebuild this summer.
Centre mid top priority for me. Far too lightweight and inexperienced in there.
Perry and Bates look great prospects but they need someone to learn off
He’s an enigma. He definitely has ‘something’. He’s got good attributes, he’s quick, tall, rangey, he can be quite strong when he wants to be, and with a bit of confidence I’m sure he’d finish better too.
Thing is, I just can’t see him coming good. He’s got no natural talent like all good forwards need to have. There’s certain elements of the game that can’t really be coached.
