That’s what I want. The truth… Having spent only 1 season in this league in 20 years. A bigger ground, attendances, and commercial Income than most. To be told we cannot compete. What the hell is going on. The chairman needs to tell the truth and stop treating people like idiots
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the fan forums are about as useful as Gaffney up front.
I’m as surprised and disappointed as anyone Scooby,by the fact that we aren’t able to compete with anyone in all 4 leagues financially, but would you rather DC be moaning to the papers and fans that the club won’t give him a decent budget or would you rather he was open and honest about the situation (as he is) and just get on with the job and cut his cloth accordingly?
This transfer window is so far going the same way as the first in respect of the signing of the experienced wide player and the striker. In my opinion that’s a huge reason why we’re 13th and not at least on the fringes of the play-offs which I think we would have been with a couple of quality additions in those areas in the summer. That in turn would have seen us getting or at least approximating the 5,000 gates that Pomlett has been banging on about as being so crucial to his budget, we’re not that far away now with a respectable average of 4.577!
More than anything for me though all the talk is starting to look very cheap, not only Pomlett’s but the DC narrative from October onwards in almost every post match, how he was going to “be ruthless” and move players on, how the transfer windows were going to be crucial because he wants success etc etc and yadda yadda. He’s now talking about how he’s going to turn this bunch of players into a top 7 outfit. My take on that is build from the back with consistent selection and players playing in their proper positions, and further up the pitch just play the likes of Bates, Perry, Nolan etc for the rest of the season. There’s little real pressure on them, and its the only thing that is likely to give the fans something of interest in the last 17 games, and as we now know, its the only real hope we’ve got of building a successful team, because we sure as hell arn’t going to buy one.
I couldn’t agree more.
In that case i would give Candlin a chance instead of Ade or Gaffney
I like his honesty the current climate we live in is that players wages and transfer fees are over inflated so teams like us suffer and can’t get anybody I would just like to know where all the moneys gone “bit for rainy day” was the term used by DC we all have a rough idea how much we’ve made on players who we’ve sold Dobson Cook etc etc TV money accumulated etc etc now either we are paying too much on this crop in wages which would be scandalous with how they’ve performed Guthrie being one of them or we are still being massively screwed by Mr Bonser and what I mean by that is trying to reach a settlement figure that sorts this freehold out I can’t think of any other reason for the disappearance of so much money.
Great lyrics to a great song
Jamie Ward just been released by Scunthorpe. Got to be worth a try.
Candlin is rubbish mate, he couldn’t get a game in non league.
Off to Barnsley I think.
We’re being fed a load of crap with Pomlett contradicting Clarke. Clarke contradicting Pomlett. Pomlett says the budget is competive a few days later Clarke says it isn’t. It’s a joke. The least you would expect is a consistent message. As someone else said Clarke constantly saying how we can’t compete with the mighty Forest Green etc he would have been fired along time ago. U cannot say that. Its an embarrassment
Oh right i have never seen him play, so why has he been on our books for so long?
Looks like it is proving tricky to sign a wide player as Clarke is saying - As it stands at the minute we’re a million miles away, out of our wage brackets at the minute to be honest, so we’ll keep working away. E&S
players are out there but we just dont pay the wages even at this level now.
Sold serious lip service. Same old lies about money.
They are now actively contradicting themselves. There was clearly a clamour to sell hope and season tickets but surely they knew this would come back and bite em on the arse.
Maybe Geordie is right…
our players are on between 500 and 1000 a week kids like bates etc less than that.
Therefore something’s going on behind the scenes isn’t it there’s been a seismic shift from “we are signing an experienced winger and a striker if one becomes available” to “we are a million miles away from signing someone” so the question is what’s happened since the meeting the other night. Was DC wrong to open his mouth about it and then pulled up by Pomlett afterwards? Was it a case of tell them what they wanna here because we are face to face with them? Is the relationship between manager and chairman as harmonious as they make out? Because I’m sure I heard DC say there’s not a target I’ve approached Leigh with that he hasn’t sorted for me at one point well that’s obviously not true is it because we miss out on so many.
I would say Clarke is telling the truth. We’re unable to compete in this league. Completely broke. The question for Pomlett is to give some explanation why and how we’re in such a dire position
Could do with another fans forum
