Is it just me or is our home atmosphere the worst it’s ever been?
Walsall fans are so dependent on Walsall players doing exciting stuff to make any kinda noise it’s embarrassing sometimes, and tbh I count myself in with those fans
We’re just a quiet club and we must be a poor club for away fans ro visit
Our away atmosphere however is a different level all together- incredible stuff
Cant get my head around it either. We were loud at Blackburn and only had 500 fans, its not the stadium, its a edgy wait and see support base for some reason.
Stockports away fans were outstanding for volume and amount of songs that sounded original. Embarrassed us in a way.
Do the lads stood up in the corner of block 1 sing or just stand up? It seems like chants echo and then fizzle out.
Its very important part of the supporter base and we’re not (on a whole) doing our bit yet.
Blocks 3 & 4 of the lower seem to be louder than block 1. But maybe that’s because i’m in block 3 next to block 4. But still, against Grimsby it was embarrassingly quiet
block three had loads of librarians in it FACT
If it weren’t for the block 1army everyone would think they’d gone deaf some people don’t go for the football just to listen to the block 1 army aye it at kid
Well the train strike has scuppered my plans to go to this and bring my new Ukrainian guest, hopefully bring him to Salford and to a future home match soon. Shout out to Graham SLO, who had kindly arranged for my Ukrainian guest to get a complimentary ticket for his first visit, probably on the basis that I promised to virtually force him to attend more matches in the future Pity it hasn’t worked out for this match but the gesture was appreciated and credit where it is due.
The home end terrible, I genuinely wish we had the away end, nice low roof and a couple of hundred can make a din. Makes sense with the saddlers club being right by too.
We probs have one of the worst in the league and it’s not through lack of trying in the lower to be fair, it just doesn’t travel unless the upper get involved. folk moan about drums but the likes of Mansfield have cracking home support semi-dictated by one.
Away from home though we are one of the best. Always read compliments from home fans. Must be the ale
I stand in the corner of block 1 and we have a go. It’s the other blocks who seem very quiet, (2,5,6) barely anyone stands up and has a go.
Its crap was better when it was the Gilbert alsop stand
We sit in block 5. You are right, very little singing. To be fair my youngest lad really does try and get songs going and I join in with him but they just don’t want to know.
It’s always been the way for most teams you sing your heart out when you go away it’s a tribal thing
At least if we were playing in division one and we got relegated, we would still be a league club
We need to do what we can to get the place absolutely rocking in Saturday. Col U are likely to bring a slightly underwhelming gate with them.
The club should do those wear red days that they used to do years back. It always made the home end look better with loads of flags draped from the upper tier and so on.
A few of us tried something years back in the upper tier to try and spread the atmosphere but it just fizzled out very quickly. Probs needed the support of the club.
The terrace! Those were the days
I sit in the upper
We mainly join in with cheering when we score, moaning at the ref occasionally and booing which we are very good at
Would be cool if the club showed the darlaston vs sporting Khalsa match pre game . Fa cup 1st qualifying round love on bbc rb 1
I used to think that too but so many grounds with bigger stands (Blackburn) or open ends and we still make a quality noise which carries.
I think its just a lack of people trying. Should gather all the lads who sing at away matches (if not banned) in one block… at let them stand up!
Better get Elton back then
Yes, there are things like mentioned above that we can do to try and encourage a good atmosphere and what happens on the pitch obviously has an effect, but ultimately as a group Walsall fans get the atmosphere that Walsall fans as a group deserves because it’s us as fans that create that atmosphere.
I know there are people that just don’t want to do that and just want to watch the game which is fine, but frustrating for those that try to create some noise when others don’t join in, feels like your fighting a loosing battle sometimes.
The biggest threat for any club is apathy.
It’s all part of the togetherness that is spoken about and is so important.
The more atmosphere we create, the more encouragement, effort and hopefully decent play you get on the pitch, the more of that on the pitch, the more excitement and atmosphere you get in the stands.
It’s a circle and the same as any circle the start is where you want it to be. We can choice as a group for it to start with us or we can choose that it must start with the team and sit quietly until we land on a team that play exciting and effective football. As it’s a circle that is more likely to happen quicker if we choose that it starts with us.
