W 1-0 vs Rochdale (H) - League Two - Sat 29th Oct, 3pm

Not one to constantly jump on one player but he is shot to pieces and too old why did we sign him?
our signings in the forward area have been as abysmal as previous seasons barring Johnson it needs changing in January some of them need to be let go either back to parent clubs or loaned out.We either pay the going rate or continue to struggle like we have in recent years they command the highest wages thats why we generally sign poor strikers we wont pay the wages that needs to change or we aint getting out of this division plenty of others will pay and not just the likes of Salford.Look at the teams that finished top 7 last season all had more than one decent striker.

That’s what we are getting with Hutchinson. He can be very hit and miss. That’s why he’s here. Cutting his teeth in league two.

Technically he is good - he’s got the tools to develop in to a championship player.

Physically he’s built for it.

Where he lacks is consistency, quality at times and decision making

We’ve took on players like Gary Oneil and George Evans in the past - these were more of. Finished article but learnt from being with us.

It’s just the end product with Hutchinson, he will get there. Sometimes I think he tries to do too much. For example:

In the week, he perfectly controlled a sixty yard boot by Evans on Tuesday, brought it down and you could hear the oohs around the stadium. He then tried to beat two defenders on the edge of the box which he was never going to do, instead of laying it off to Bennett for a simple cross.

On Saturday he made a lovely run across the front of the box, realised he just about had their midfielder for pace, arced his run around to the touch line, beat him on the outside and got in a perfect position for the cross … but he didn’t do that. He then tried to beat the centre half as well who easily dispossessed him and actually knocked it off him for a goal kick.

What I’m saying is, he has all the tools. Lovely technical ability, nice passer of a ball, tall, not slow, everything you need as a decent attacking mid in any level of the football league.

It’s just that final decision that needs refining.

Couldn’t agree more
Bit like our corner routines yesterday full of invention poor with execution but it’s work in progress , we are getting there

My thought on yesterday.
We were dreadful.
Everyone had an off day.
There didn’t seem to be any intensity to our play, we were ambling about half arsed early in the 1st half. It felt weird, like a pre season friendly.
Hutch huffed and puffed, kins was quiet and Manny had the boots on the wrong feet.
Good to win when playing so poorly, I thought Dale were decent without the quality to finish.
I also think MF has got in wrong with Rodney, he would have added to us and is better than williams, DJT and Abraham

:wink:Offer here,

Not sure what to say other than look where we are in the league, and we are not playing too well.
This league is massively shite so cannot see why we cannot get into 6th or 7th.

Think we have been lucky with having to play Dale and Horrorgate on the bounce at home , getting us up the table.
BUT
We are now in a challenging position for sure, just a little bit of improvement in all areas, especially with regards intensity and we will get into the play offs

No doubts whatsoever.

:pray:Offer

I don’t suppose it really matters how we play as long as we keep picking up points to allow us to be in a position to strike when the injured players come back and when we can add players to the group. If we get promoted through the playoffs this season you’d have to take your hat off to the ā€œlesserā€ players in the squad that gave us that platform to make a playoff bid with.

I agree with all of your post. Regarding the bit I have quoted, Hutchinson seems very one footed ( a lot of players are) he appears to be found on the left side of the pitch a lot, which is probably why he fails to get the cross in.

Totally agree he looks to have the potential to be a real player when he has more football under his belt. We definitely look a better team all round when he is on his game.

He’s easily the most two footed player we have.

In the two examples given, one of them Bennett’s run killed the space he wanted to go into which would’ve enabled the cross (there was no one in the box however!) - Bennett needed to underlap not overlap.

The second example he cut inside onto his right foot so crossing wasn’t a problem however there was only one player in the box against three defenders and a gk!! So he retained possession by giving it to kinsella.

Anyone heard any more about Tunnelgate?

Maybe, but in both examples the worst option he had was over playing and losing possession, which he did both times.

Like I say, he will get there, just that little bit of nouse needed.

During the second half one of their players appeared to report something to the ref who then spoke to the 4th official. I assumed someone in the crowd had said something, but given what happen at the end I now assume something happened or was said between two players during the game and then it has kicked off in tunnel at the end.

One thing about yesterday is how we coped or didn’t against a 4-3-3 formation
There two wide forwards pinned back our wing backs, they matched us up in midfield with there holding midfielder controlling midfield. We had three centre halves v one forward.
Against a more confident quality side we would have lost and I think other teams may find this set up the way to stifle us. We seemed reluctant to change shape to combat such systems

He had a good game but that humble pie stuff dont wash…

Remember that goal other week him and evans messed up? Or wanna look back at some of his previous defending? Hes had a couple good games and i hope they carry on but trying too make out hes been amazing is just wrong…Its over a season not one or two games

I think the fact that White was riled early on helped his game. He seemed far more up for it and focussed yesterday. Too often he seems to switch off and drift through games without fully concentrating.

I agree with above poster that 532 doesn’t work against 443
Pushed us way to far back and that extra defender would have been more useful as a winger or midfiler to help relieve the pressure
Against 1 up top you really don’t need 3 cbs

Still alot of worrying signs on show yesterday we seem to be making the same mistakes week in week out from a team and coaching point of view. Please tell me why our top goalscorer keeps getting subbed off especially when theres only 1 goal in the game. Set pieces are poorly excuted not even sure our man mountain Monthe has even come close to connecting with the ball from a set piece.

Humble pie :joy::joy::joy:…such a wind up

Monthe is the strongest defender in this league but he doesn’t seem to have a leap or get off the ground when we have set pieces and corners. So is not that threatening.
