W 2-0 vs Gillingham (H) - League Two - Sat 18th March, 3pm

I only watched the second half yesterday, but i thought we did ok, i can’t understand why we have put soo many bad performances together during the last few months? if we are capable of putting in a half decent performance like that?
After all the team hasn’t dramatically changed, the only real addition is Riley, who i think is going to go pretty far in the game.

Well he better get a shift on then as he’s 27 this year and hasn’t made 100 professional appearances yet :flushed:

Bloody hell he doesn’t look it :grinning:
I just think he looks a lot better than a league 2 player

If you’re Dacre, wouldn’t you have problems with your own swear filter?

I thought Riley looked decent as well actually puts a good ball in and tries to pass the ball.

The commentator on ifollow said that he could read Harris’s lips when Riley put one particular cross in, and he said " Wow what a ball that was"

Good job we have loads of money In the bank to buy better players.

I prefer Rachel Riley

Think that’s a bit of a generalisation. I’d say most fans (with obvious exceptions) can look at a player and contextualise their attributes against their position and role, then make a fair assessment of how consistently they deliver the essentials.

A player who is critical in closing down the opposition and supporting the press will naturally be lauded for high energy and commitment, particularly if they’re strong at tackling, tracking etc.

For that they’ll be forgiven a lack of technical proficiency (in division 4 at least) in the same way a creative midfielder isn’t typically expected to be physically imposing or flying into tackles.

I’d say players are generally deemed to be performing consistently if they keep on doing the things they’re expected to be good at, rather than the things they’re not.

I judge a fans “knowledge” on if they shout “shooooot” everytime someone has some space 50/60 yards out.

My biggest criticism of Hutch is his ball control. There was a couple of times yesterday, not just yesterday either, when he received passes from a teammate that he failed to control, especially if the pass is hit with any pace. If he can clean up that part of his game he will be more than a decent player at this level.

Really? I’d say he has probably the best ball control in the side, probably bar… I can’t think of anyone else. Riley?

Not sure about that, good with the ball at his feet in general but his first touch lets him down a lot. Having said that so are the rest.

The difference I see is his first touch is often trying to make something happen or nip it round the corner to create something.

Contrast that with a lot of the rest of the squad who do the easy thing.

You can tell sometimes he takes his eye off it because hes looking at his next move, im sure that will come with experience.

Not sure you can discount some of the pitches either, makes it tougher for technical players.
