W 2-1 vs Oldham Athletic (H) - League Two - Tue 15th March, 7:45pm

Just watched the post match presser with Flynn, Looks like hes on the rocket fuel cant keep still lol.

Flynn has really impressed me with his in game management. On Saturday, at half time he clearly told the lads to play Sutton at their own game and give back what was being dished out, which worked a treat as they were completely rattled when we stood up to them.

Today Rodney came on at exactly the right time and considering he wasn’t a Flynn signing and hasn’t had much of a sniff of first team action, he’s totally on board with what Flynn wants.

Shade struggled to beat his man in the first twenty minutes of the game so Flynn switched him with Osadebe which saw both in contention for MOTM. Kiernan coming on for Labadie was a strange one, with Perry being the obvious choice. Moving Osadebe into the middle helped us keep the ball and kept us higher up the pitch. Kiernan looked decent when he came on too. Although the score line would suggest otherwise, that was a really convincing win

I’ll just repeat what I’ve said after each of the last few home games - it’s so refreshing to see us playing interesting, hard working, honest football. Movement off the ball, carrying the ball, tracking back, doing the simple things right, having shots etc.

It feels like an age since we’ve played anything like the kind of football that will get us in the top half of the league, and now we finally are. We’ll probably just squeeze in to the top 10 this season, and I’m expecting a very good season in 22/23.

Tonight I thought Monthe was outstanding, Daniels solid too after his star performance v Sutton, great goal by the Oss…Shade looks a different player and Wilkinson is getting better with every game.

Tactically it’s a master stroke to put Oss and Shade at wing back, in terms of physicality they are our best two players, quickest and strongest with the best engines. Playing them high up the field meant they relied on quality service from the midfield and defence behind them (which they rarely got) and they were more easily nullified by oppositions.

Allowing them to pick up the ball much, much deeper means they can get us up the field quickly which exposes gaps in teams at this level and allows our wide centre halves to support. It’s the best I’ve ever seen us implement 532. They can also track back very quickly if they need too. This has also allowed Kins to focus on his role breaking up play, and even leaving space for him to run in to.

After the turgid and inefficient football of Taylor, Dutton, Clarke, Keates, Whitney - what a breath of fresh air Flynn is.

FTFY.

Its now apparent.

Taylor was a terrible Manager. Flynn is a great one and Fullarton actually signed some great players. Osadebe has been unplayable at times and I’m sure clubs much higher up the leagues than us will be aware of his undeniable talent.

Glad I was wrong in my prediction. I really enjoyed that, the effort put in by the players, the manager not being afraid to make changes when needed and the atmosphere. It was great to hear fans singing and enjoying the football again. Long may it continue. Who knows I might even renew my season ticket.

Yep. Finding ways to win games instead of finding ways to lose and insanely give up winning positions.

Of course this is football generally, but is especially football at this level.

I’m not sure what Flynn’s limitations are as he’s never managed above this level, but he knows this division inside out. If he is successful with us he will probably find out our limitations before we discover his, as was the case with Dosh, but that scenario is infinitely preferable than watching Pomlett trying to find his way out of the National League.

Very enjoyeable, looking forward.

I’ve started to enjoy the football again and dare I say it, I was even looking forward to attending tonight. I haven’t felt that way for a while. We have started to resemble a decent side.

We could easily have conceded a couple more goals with some sloppy play and poor marking in the first half, but equally we could have scored more ourselves. Two desperately poor shots by Wilkinson and Miller in the second half, dragged hopelessly wide, spring to mind.

We no longer have players performing badly and they are all playing to a reasonable standard on the whole and long may it continue.

I thought the work done by Earing and Kinsella was outstanding tonight.

I can’t think of a single player who hasn’t improved under Flynn’s guidance. Whether that will be due to them being deployed in a different role, having some stern words said to them about the reality of theirs’ and the club’s position or being given the confidence to play their natural game, I don’t know but whatever he’s doing is working.
We’ve more than matched the most stylish teams and the most awful cloggers in recent weeks. That is surely a recipe for success.
It’s great to see our players begin to fulfill their potential.
I’ve always loved Osadebe but I’d got to the point where I couldn’t justify my admiration because his performances over 90 minutes were just not good enough with any degree of regularity.
I was unable to see anything that Tyrese Shade brought to the team a few weeks ago but, wow, there is some player in there. His work-rate and commitment is fantastic - apart from his obvious ability.
Wilkinson is a man transformed. Kinsella is showing a dimension to his game that many had begun to doubt that he possessed.

I can’t wait for this Saturday at Harrogate - to spend time in the company of great people and to watch the performance of a team who seem to be on the same wavelength and who appear to be enjoying their football under the guidance of a manager who clearly knows what he’s doing, both in terms of tactics and man-management.

I know, I know. You post the same thing after every match directly to me, as if I’m saying everything Taylor did was brilliant, and completely ignore any contextual observations otherwise. I’m not sure why you do this, but I know, after moaning about Pomlett for three years and banging on about how Bonser was so much better, actually it was all down to one manger :sleeping::sleeping::sleeping::sleeping:. You’ve made that point ad nauseum.

It’s funny reading you blowing the same smoke up Fullarton after every game (but also whinging about players like Zak Mills mind) whilst also absolutely trashing Taylor … appointed by Fullarton :man_shrugging:

Not sure we took a fair few up there midweek this season. But yes, fair play they brought a fair few considering their position. I hope they stay up, proper club proper fans. As someone else said I hope some non entity of a club like Stevenage go down and Oldham stay up. They certainly didn’t look like a bottom 2 team

Excellent result today.
We just need a fit Holden / Tomlin behind the front 2 to really link things together . It’s a very hard working team with a bit of talent but very little creativity from the centre midfield. We won today and we were the better team but we struggle to dominate and thrash teams.
This team is a couple of technically top end players away from being an automatic promotion Side under this manager

This manager can get us somewhere.

This team are good enough.

Watching his post match pressers where the hell has he been for the past 5 years. We have been crying out for somebody like this.

Onwards and Upwards. Very excited for the future with Flynn at the helm

Agree with both of you.

A bit further to travel but compare Oldham’s following last night with that of Sutton’s on Saturday. A Sutton side who could have gone second with a win.

It is right that there is a meritorious route right from the bottom of the pyramid to the top but being selfish I think the whole experience is better when we play clubs who have enough of a foothold in their community to bring at least a few hundred fans. It reminds us that this is a game of professional football being played out and makes for a far better occasion. My heart sinks when I see we are playing a Crawley, Stevenage, Sutton, Harrogate and a little bit of sick comes up when I see we are playing Salford. Give me Stockport, Wrexham, Chesterfied, Notts County any day of the week.

So I hope Oldham stay up and a Stevenage or a Barrow (how non league was that experience the other week?) go down. I then hope Stockport and Wrexham come up. Clubs that in their first year back will bring around a thousand to our place. Of course I then hope that their considerable support leaves Bescot disappointing having seen their team thumped.

Looked off side “live”.

It was offside.

It was definitely offside, both the lineman and ref should have seen it and disallowed the goal.
Very glad they didn’t though!

I didn’t realise quite how poor that was from Rushworth at the time. Time to drop him and play Rose. Not our player, won’t be hear next year, in bad form and we are playing dead rubbers.

Just watched the goals and if that was Saturdays ref he would have pulled Os up for a foul and he would have disallowed the other for offside,
