W 2-1 vs Salford City (H) - League Two - Sat 9th Oct, 3pm

I agree on Earing, I would like to see him play more as an attacking midfielder than a defensive one, a role he’s better suited for.
Good games from Manny, Paddy, Rollin and Ward today, every player contributed to a good team effort.

I think we are noticeably quicker through the lines with Earring playing in there.

I’ve been going on about this for years and years now. The midfield has to be Earring and Labadie or Kins. Not Labadie and Kins.

We are so much better playing through when we have midfielders in there with a bit of skill, and can pass forwards.

Agree with this, but we need to be better at getting the ball to him from the back four. Earing was dropping in today but Monthe and Menayese seemed reluctant to make the pass into space, favouring the long ball.

This may sound like a silly thing to say but I think Earing would be wasted in the number 10 role. Looks really accomplished in the center of midfield and gets to see for more of the ball and makes our transitions far quicker. I’d persist with him where he played today, he could become a really top player in there if he keeps developing. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are already scouts taking a peek at him.

Centre halves like Monthe and Ash Taylor should be performing much better as regards set pieces with all their experience in the game it says pretty much everything when Menayese is the best centre half at the club as we speak.

Yep! I was tearing my hair out about it!

But I guess it’s an evolving side, and Earring May learn to demand the ball more.

Absolutely!!

I thought Labadie was anonymous today, but then when he went off it got noticeably worse in midfield.

Enjoyed the game today, thought we deserved the win despite maybe a lack of possession. Cant really remember any decent chances created by Salford. I’ll touch on the closing few minutes, it felt as though some players may have been content with a draw. There was a clear message from the fans I felt that we wouldn’t accept that and we wanted them to go for it and thankfully Wilkinson did the rest. Glad also that Hunter didn’t get the last laugh after his ridiculous overreaction to Labadie’s challenge. UTS

As @Blazing_Saddler has alluded to, he’s looking a very accomplished League Two player in that role. Think we had a different dimension today with Earing dropping deep and Ladabie pushed further forward where he could ‘influence’ things more in midfield.

I said to my mate at the Rovers game that Earring reminds me a bit of the player and role that Declan Rice plays. He’s got similar qualities and for me stands out head and shoulders in our midfield. He represents an excellent scout and pick up by the club, and could be worth a good few bob if suitors come calling.

an excellent all round midfielder.

Earing was man of the match for me. Didn’t waste a pass that I can recall

Took a neutral, premier league team supporter today. His verdict:

Generally good, seem to have some some good players.
Definitely seem to fall apart both physically and mentally after 60 minutes ( no coincidence the winner was scored by a sub).
MOTM probably was the solid looking mayonnaise but Monty ran him close. Monty loves a long ball but it’s impressive how many of these balls find a Walsall player.
We look like a mid-table team but one that is (re)building.

Other board members should not count as neutral!
Well they shouldn’t at least.

Haha glad I was!

Assumed Wilko was still injured (so bench would’ve looked pretty desperate in attack without him) and Salford had likes of Iain Henderson and other attacks injured.

Hopefully Holden will come back this side of xmas and perhaps Hal Robson Kanu will fancy actually playing some football (even if he just wants to get in shop window for January) and to me that’s an attack not far off top 7.

Defence still feels brittle though in the number of cheap goals it gives away but I do think there’s promising shoots elsewhere, just got to get them all on the pitch at same time. At least with Miller that means the end of Wilkinson playing CF as he was start of the season, he’s obviously miles better wide in a front 3.

Rare treat that. Made a very late decision to watch on iFollow at 5 to three when I found out the game was available. Delighted I did after the limbs in Ripley at the end. Feels so much better to be on the right side of a late goal. When was the last time two goals were scored so dar apart in the same game?
Think we’ll be alright if we can get through the injuries. Fear the worst if they keep coming. Hopefully that’s a corner turned :crossed_fingers:t2:. UTS :facepunch:t2:

I was quite pleased how comfortable our CBs were on the ball, it made us look a much better side. Monthe has a deceptively useful ball into the channel on him.

Agree with that.I thought he played some excellent passes in the second half and he was defensively very sound as was his partner.

Yes they seem to compliment each other well with different styles.
