They did have a bit more of the ball but they did nothing positive with it. Defensively we were solid and extremely organised. The first 15 minutes were a bit sloppy from both teams but as you said after this we were in total control, executing our aggressive press perfectly and creating lots of chances.
One thing I will say is I have been critical of Kinsella - not for his work rate or his defensive capabilities but for his actual ability on the ball. In all the years he’s been here it hasn’t been good enough in that respect … Yesterday him and Comley were very effective on the ball. Kinsella was looking forward rather than backwards and it was really refreshing to see.
I can only think this is down to mismanagement in the past, telling him to do the dirty work and that’s it. Kinsella was f**king awesome yesterday (they all were to be fair).

They all looked like they were thoroughly enjoying their jobs, some of the football was brilliant and those set pieces credit to Hatswell and Sadler for that because the Hartlepool players didn’t have a scooby what was happening.

On this we shall agree. We were brilliant and it was a joy to watch but they are one of the crappest sides I’ve seen us play for years.
They’d given up when we scored the 4th, just watching the ball float across their own six yard box

The burning question is whether @Belphegor has backed us for the league title?? My grandad and my brother have had a few quid on us at 16’s with Skybet this morning.
Take into account Comley & Kinsella dominated midfield didnt allow them to breathe or settle on the ball and they had 1 striker up top being marshalled by Clarke. Point being our set up and execution was a big factor in making Hartlepool look poor we stifled them.
I’d say yesterday was the most complete defensive performance I’ve seen in years.
I didn’t realise he’s played the ball for Abraham, that’s fair.

I didn’t say there was an issue, I said that’s the only way we will be unlocked. No defence in football is absolutely perfect or you’d never concede ever.
We were Rock solid at the back and will cope with most strike forces with nous alone.
One clear improvement under Flynn is the use of the wingbacks.
Hartlepool couldn’t contain Allen on the left side all game, White was decent first half and Bennett come on and looked great on the right side.
This time last year we started the season with Zak Mills and Stephen Ward

The best thing about Allen is that most of us assumed he would just be a squad-filler. Judging off yesterday he’s much better than that.

Agreed. In fact, I think our positions over the last two seasons were worse than they should have been, even with those players. Maybe fitness makes a difference too but the whole attitude of the team is different. Last season, we had that endless passing between the back 3 or 4 before an eventual hoof up the pitch. Yesterday, we were much more direct - Hartlepool actually had more possession than us but we had 21 shots!
Still think we need to add one or two players before the end of transfer window. I don’t agree with some who say we have strength in depth. Still a player or two short for me.
We have the basis of a very good squad.
No doubt we have benefited from a full pre season together rather a squad thrown together with a couple of weeks before the season start.
Would be nice to get a real quality kid (one who is destined for a top career) from a premier league on loan before the end of transfer window.
I was really impressed with him in every game in pre season. He’s such an upgrade over Reece Devine.

I love how we set up In Attack.
With the ball we played lb 1 cb rb and white and Allen were more like wingers right up in their half
Allowed so many more options and the amount of times Allen was behind their last man on the wing was great
When you have Daniels Clarke Monthe in defence with Comley and kinsella sitting in front you can afford to push your wing backs right up it also forces there midfielder line back aswell. We are going to an hard team to play against. Then we have our secret weapon of pace of the bench when the opposition are tired. I honestly think Flynn as got the recruitment bang on.

Yep think that will be the most plan. Comley sits, Kinsella rats, and the creativity comes from Hutch and the wing backs and the strike partnership. I’d like to see Riley come in for White, he’s just not refined enough as a wing back. Prefer him as a back up centre half. Taylor Allen was very impressive.

Most enjoyable debrief for a long time. We all agreed the performance was outstanding. Taylor Allen got my POTM but there were strong shouts for Hutchinson, Clarke and Comley too. DJ has to take the plaudits though for a proper goalscorers’ hattrick. None of us were getting too carried away Hartlepool were poor but you can only beat what’s in front of you and we did that with aplomb.
Absolutely just let that sink in when you think about how we played yesterday.

Had a lump on the spreads early on. Got some recouping to do from the last 2 seasons.
